Gap[edit]

I highly suspect there is a gap in the history of the Catholicate of the West due to Anson's book not covering the period after 1964. This gap goes untill 1994, when the second Patriarch of Glastonbury, Seraphim Newman-Norton, joined the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church of the British Isles may have been the most recent name of the Catholicate of the West. A book was released in 1976 (while the Catholicos Newman was still alive) written by Seraphim Newman-Norton: Fitly Framed Tohether: A Summary of the History, Beliefs and Mission of the Orthodox Church of the British Isles, Glastonbury: Metropolitical Press, 1976. So, it is possible that since at least 1976 the Catholicate has used the name "Orthodox Church of the British Isles".
I have searched far and wide in the works I could find online, but found nothing to fill this gap apart from this unreliable website which states: "The approach to Bishop Kovalevsky during 1969 came to nothing despite his sympathy for the cause of Mar Georgius’s church and full acceptance of the validity of its orders. At his suggestion, the title of the church was changed to 'The Orthodox Church of the British Isles'." What seems to be the most recent book on the subject by Seraphim Newman-Norton is Flesh of our brethren: an historical examination of western episcopal successions originating from the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch (2006). However, it was published by Lulu.com and is therefore unusable, as I think it therefore cannot be considered to have been published by an official publisher of any group.
I will soon check Independent Bishops: An International Directory (1990) which may shed some light on this time gap. Veverve (talk) 21:01, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, the most recent book by Seraphim is Exiles from Eden. However, it is once again published by Lulu.com. Veverve (talk) 04:11, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to add that this church at one point was called "Orthodox Church of the British Isles", thanks to the Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements. Veverve (talk) 20:37, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Protodeaconess + global assessment + misc.[edit]

As a sidenote:

  • I did not find it useful to state the Catholicate had ordained a protodeaconess in 1948 (Anson, 464-5)
  • I did not find it useful to give the global assessment Anson makes of the Catholicate (he among other things states the Catholicate was always "a fascinating castle in the air") on p. 500-1

Also:

  • I did not manage to find in Anson's book what "autocephalous tropoi" meant, and I only found a trivial mention here.
