Description[edit]
We seem to have projects for just about every major British soap, but not Brookside. Although this series ended some years ago, it was on air for 21 years and was one of Channel 4's more popular programmes, drawing an audience of several million at its peak. Brookside's storylines were often a microcosm, reflecting events that were happening in the real world, particularly during the 1980s. I propose setting up a WikiProject Brookside to better organise articles on the subject and to create some missing ones. The project would be similar in nature to those for Coronation Street, EastEnders and others. The series was popular so I think it could potentially generate interest among Wikipedians. There may be quite a few articles (I haven't checked), but I doubt there's enough interest to sustain it. Isn't that one of the reasons the series got cancelled? A brand-new Wikiproject about a soap can often end up making its own rules, style guidelines, etc etc, which makes the end result of the articles that fall under its banner to look inconsistent with other articles related to TV shows, and really they should all be consistent. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but even the articles under the Wikiprojects you've mentioned, for Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale, The Bill, etc are inconsistent. I'm not looking for "cookie cutter" factory produced articles, but I think a Brookside joint taskforces set up with WP:TV, WP:SOAPS, and WP:BTVS would be a better option, as it can use the well-established WP:MOSTV and other guidelines already laid down for writing articles about TV shows, soap operas, characters, etc and also draw upon the experience, knowledge and assistance of the members of said projects. An independent WikiProject for a failed soap with maybe a low number of members is not really sustainable. In the future, if the task force does become bigger, and the number of articles increases, a decision to spin it out into an independent project can be made. A taskforce at this stage provides an opportunity to prove the worth of such a project, attract more members and a reasonable compromise. Matthewedwards : Chat 16:40, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
