Welcome to the first ever Wikiproject Cartoon Network Newsletter!

New layout for the project[edit]

If you haven't noticed already, WP:TOON has a new layout for the project page. User:Treelo figured it would be a good thing to convert the old into what you see now. The goal is to have a more project like feel, and encourage interaction and contributions from the members. Much of the project was shamelessly swiped from another successful project, although some of the new features may still be a works-in-progress.

The navigation bar on the right side of the main project page should be transcluded on to each individual project page. This navigation bar is only for project pages. If you notice it missing, please feel free to add {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Cartoon Network/Navigation}} to the proper project page.

There are a few new major changes here, so I'll point them out briefly:

  • Watchlist. Use this to quickly scan changes to the articles which have been tagged under the {{WikiProject Cartoon Network}} banner. This is similar to your personal watch list, but shows you what else with other Cartoon Network articles. This way you can quickly and easily scan through changes.
  • Members. The membership list, which should be fairly self-explanatory. New members will add their names to the bottom of the list, by signing your name by typing four tildes < along with information on your show interests and/or what you hope to add to our project. If you happen to notice a new member who has added their name, please welcome them with our custom welcome template by placing {{subst:Cartoon Network-Welcome}} on their talk page.

We've separated the project into departments as follows:

  • Assessment: This is the standard assessment mechanism. You use this by adding {{WikiProject Cartoon Network}} to the talk page of the associated article. There are a few parameters, such as importance and quality. See WP:TOON/A for further details.
  • Collaboration: Is a project-wide page where we can identify a target and improve it to the highest quality, with the ultimate goal of a featured article.
  • Community: This is a general talk area where we can come up with ideas of ways to improve the project and help the project's editing community. Unlike the project's talkpage, this page's purpose is for helping editors out with their Wikimoods and more. Think of it as a CN specific village pump!
  • Jumpaclass: Challenge someone to work on an article and bring it up a class. This is an individual or small-team effort similar to the Collaboration above.
  • Newsletter: You're looking at it.
  • Peer review: Submit an article here for peer review. If you have been working on article and you are proud of it, but want some more eyes to look it over, feel free to discuss that here.

And under the Departments you will find a Useful links. Some of these should be self-evident:

  • Infoboxes and templates: The various templates we use: welcoming new users, tagging talk page assessments, and a userbox.
  • Guidelines: All the standard Wikipedia guidelines and policies are still in place.
  • Notice board: Bring up any disputes or other admin-like issues here.
  • Deletion discussions: This is a link to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Television. If you notice a Cartoon Network article being taken to WP:AFD, you may want to see and vote on the AFD here. This will allow a broader exposure to interested parties.
  • Project category: This is the project category system. These are separate from the article categorization.
  • CN categories: These would be the article categories. We have a few, and they need to be examined in detail. More about this at a later date!
  • Info resources: If you find a good reliable source to use in articles, place that here. If you are curious about a source, bring it up on the talk page and we can try to determine the reliability.

The main project page still contains a to do task list. Feel free to tackle any to-do, or bring up some new tasks which you feel have been neglected.

And if those links are too long for you, take a peek at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cartoon Network/Alphabet soup navigation. Many of the above can be accessed by a shortcut WP:TOON/''X'' where X represents the first letter of the department.

Membership drive[edit]

We'd like to get more members, and more active members. We would like to encourage existing members to utilize the project framework which has been laid out. If you know someone who you think may bring good contributions to the project, ask them on their talk page.

For now, I hope you will agree with these changes, and will begin to participate in the new project structure. Any questions, etc, can always be taken to the main project talk page. Yngvarr (c) 19:10, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
