Original – The Golden Gate Bridge at a foggy sunset.Fog over Golden Gate Bridge is world famous. The fog of San Francisco Bay is a specific type of fog. It is a sea fog identified as advection fog, which is characterized by the lateral transfer of temperature by wind blowing over cooler water.Coastal areas having Mediterranean climates, such as that of San Francisco, have especially frequent sea fog blowing off the ocean to just a few miles inland. This San Francisco fog was taken into account during construction of Golden Gate Bridge. At one point experts doubt the bridge could be built there at all. They said that ferocious winds and blinding fogs would prevent construction and operation. Fog also played a role in choosing the color of the bridge, and red color was chosen because red color enhances the bridge's visibility in fog. The sky colors are due to Belt of Venus.

Midspan navigation lighting that is used by passing vessels contains eight vertical lights, four on each side. They are located at the center of the Bridge just below the deck. The top three lights are white, and the bottom light is green.
Reason

  • Nice picture, but note this thematically similar shot, which is already featured. Chick Bowen 20:54, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The picture you provided is not a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, it just happened to be in the picture while the photographer was taking pictures of the suns rays (according to the description of the photo). If you will also note, the picture does not appear on Golden Gate Bridge.
The two pictures are not on the same theme as one is a picture of fog in San Francisco while the other, is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge through fog. Dusty777 (talk) 20:12, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How is it better than this in that regard ? --Elekhh (talk) 15:07, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, and with the nominator permission I hope I added the image you asked about as alt1. I believe this image might be even better because both towers of the bridge are in the image. The caption is still the same. I only took off mention of Belt of Venus.--GXK147 (talk) 22:23, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the Alt you provided is a little more appealing. Since it is a picture of the the entire bridge, it provides more EV then the original. Thanks for providing the alt. Dusty777 (talk) 17:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
