Former Countries Project

Oh heavens no, I am not the leader of the group but I do make edits whenever I can. I'm guessing you might get better help from Imterchange: 88http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Interchange88 However, if you don't we can put our heads together and work on some things. I'm one of those editors who works ofn sticking in and tracking down citations for asserted facts and watching out for vandals. I am an Anthropologist/Linguist/Folklorist by profession & training but currently also work in the film industry. What did you have in mind? Feel free to respond on my page or here and then leave me a short not on my page that your longer reply is over here. I got involved initially because so many of the history and folklore articles I was tweaking had mentions of and/or ties to countries that no longer exist. For example, I worked VERY hard whipping the Pied Piper of Hamelin article into shape a couple years ago by removing utter nonsense and tossing in dozens of referenced facts. The mention of former countries came into play but since then, we've streamline a lot of that out of the article, leaving in obly what com plicated and convoluted geographical history is necessary. My 1st involvemnt was in former colonial countries and pre-colonial kingdoms. Tell me more about your specific interests and goals and maybe your energy will help us get the Project back into the forefornt of its members imaginations and "To Do" lists ! I'd like nothing more! I saw your most recent efforts and the report on my page aletrting me to them and I am very impressed with your Wiki Boldness. You embody the energy and spirit which The Wikimedia Foundation hoped to instill in editors all over the globe! Yes, I will happily redirect my editing towards this project and do my best to spend a little time on it every day instead of wasting my free time wacthing youtube videos or just googing around on FB. I was a very active editor for a long time but became very discouraged over one article in particular, Sweater curse, when a Knitting enthusiast with no background in folklore, Anthropology or wikipedia giuidlines squatted over an article for two years, reverting every edit anyone made because she believed it was "hers," not understanding nor caring to educate herself on the collective nature of wikipedia. Eventually an experienced andquite sane editor came in to help keep the article from always be reverted & he then added an amazing amount of references and High quality material. However, the Cyberbullying was draining and worrying since any action by me , anywhere on Wikipedia, elicited a flurry or negative responses. Having had Stalker issues in Real Life, I recognized the sign and backed away from wikipedia, trying only to make minor edits of reference adding, filling in info and that sort. As an Anthropologist and Folklorist, I feel the Former Countries Project is of immense value and I will be glad to help. I'm busy all day today, but on Tuesday, I can devote some time to it. WikiProject Former countries - Subprojects template

There is one already. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries/Empire of Brazil task force, for example. At the right you'll see a large template with all the links that exist in the banner you added. Sincerely? You banner is redundant and I see no reason to keep it. I'm sorry if I'm being rude. Possibility for looking towards other languages for Guidance (among other ideas)

Earlier in the month, I just so happened to be on the Investiture Controversy page on the English Wikipedia, I look on the side, and saw it was listed as GA status for the French language. I click on there, and saw the link to the HRE page for the French Wiki, and also saw a link to the German Wikipedia page. Note that my French and German don't even qualify me for basic, (and I didn't use the Google Translate), but I think we can use those two for sources for Guidance. I'm pretty sure you're well-suited for that, more than me. I did see a book on Medieval Germany from 1056-1273 that I wanted to buy that could help out substansially, but I don't want to pay that money for a book that I'm not certain for, and probably need to find more than one source to make a lasting contribution.


As for setting guidelines, I'm all for that. There are some that I could have added in the scope (Those related to the the History of Switzerland, and also of the Kingdom of Burgundy)

Some of the others I considered:

  • Hussite Wars
  • Jan Hus - not sure, but just considering
  • Vienna (city), not just History, considering there is Berlin on there as well)
  • Aachen - Considering that was the place were the Kings of Germany were crowned (Charlamagne's favorite place, I believe), and that your also considering merging the Kings of Germany with the HRE page, I say why not....
  • University of Heidelberg (first Germany University, established by the Rhine, played a significant role during the Western Schism, but someone removed the HRE link about a month ago)
  • Univeristy of Leipzig, Vienna, and Charles University of Prague (Established w/the Golden Papal Bull of 1356, part of Charles IV's huge reforms for Prague and the HRE in general)
  • Prague (from Charles IV to the Thirty Years War it was a very important city, used to be the capital of the HRE)
  • Regiomontanus, possibly?
  • Northern Italian provinces part of the HRE that aren't in the scope (such as Duchy of Milan; already added, of course)
  • Any of the Popes that were from the HRE at the alloted time range
  • House of Lorraine

Rudolf I, could also be a part of those vital categories, considering he was the first Habsburg HRE. I'll read more of the Kingdom of Germany article in the meantime. I'm also trying to edit a few articles as well (Border Collie is next for me, yes it may seem random). I wish there was a little more input at times for this page, it seems it's a two-man show, and it's been more you than me, especially as of late. All I've been doing is looking for articles that need to fit in this scope (under 600 seems sort of low for a subject this important), and it hasn't been as often like it was a month ago. But I'm glad someone like you are making edits where needed. And I'm still very much a committed member of the force, make no doubt of that! It doesn't matter where you contact me (your talk page, my talk page, or on the HRE task force page), but let me know how you feel about those ideas that I spat.
