afcs in general

I've been looking a recent AfC submissions, and I see you're doing a good many. You are almost always right in what you accept or reject. But for a few of them I would have done a little differently:

  1. It's really important not to miss the key problem of copyvio. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/ADDICTIONS THERAPIST is mostly or entirely copied from their web site. Their use of "you" is not a matter of formal tone, but rather an indication that, in addition, the article is promotional. I gave the ed. some detailed advice at User talk:Caap23. It was a good faith editor who didn't know that what they were doing was not acceptable here, and they deserve a full explanation why. It's easy to add this to the users article talk page, but sometimes I just do it as a comment. To make the comment more visible, I generally use bold or bold italics.
  2. When the only sources are not reliable for supporting notability , and it also would appear that there are no likely good sources that would ever make such a subject notable, the editor should be told that explicitly, or they are all too likely to resubmit the article with some more equally bad sources--as in fact actually happened at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Recstacy. Such festivals are almost never independently notable. The preformed template is not a sufficient explanation. I gave the ed a short but I hope adequate one at User talk:Kumarvivek0811. Similarly for the AfCs on Donate to Africa, Inc, ebcwebstore.com, and Behavioural conflict
  3. When the article is entirely promotional, and there are no sources nor likely to be any , all reasons need to be explained, and this needs to be done on the author's talk p. I did this for Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Kinsley Power Systems
  4. Sometimes, there is something specific to be said. See what I said about Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Plague Inc. on the author's talk p. (I don't see hat tone" has to do with it--you probably meant promotionalism, but that's not the problem. If there are additional 3rd party reviews, the game might well be notable and the article is reasonably descriptive. Similarly, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Veterinary Clinical Pathology and the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology might actually make one or more articles, but the way the editor is trying, they'll never get there. I gave some specific advice, and am prepared to follow up. But see the specific problem at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Stars and Stripes Division (Lowell, IN) Without specifying this, the article is likely to be created again and again, and it will never make an article.
  5. Sometimes, there is specific action that can be taken; I redirected Blue Jeans a'Swinging to the artist--the article there adequately discusses the album. Similarly, I redirected GannettLocal to the main company.

I understand the need for rapid action to deal with the many submissions. But an inadequate purely formulaic response can result in repeated work: better to guide the new editors carefully at the first. If you need advice on anything, or see a problem an admin can help with, just ask me on my talk p. You'll see others who do that. DGG ( talk ) 04:39, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation - ChangeMakrs.com

You rejected this proposed article for not having "reliable" sources, yet the source for this article is a website that has partnered, or has been featured, with CNN, Huffington Post, Microsoft, and other prominent companies. A suggestion: You might want to be a bit more thorough, and clear in your reviews.--Joel Kirk (talk) 05:11, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

twitter marketing

Hi, I had created a page on Twitter Marketing whih got rejected by you on grounds that it exists on the twitter usage page. I would like to argue that the article in question is a very generic one based on twitter usage whereas the one created by me is more in depth. I request you to kindly look into this and review your rejection again. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prachi.kelkar14 (talkcontribs) 14:52, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Trademark owned by Manuscript Pen Co Ltd

I am a very new user of Wikipedia but have submitted a page about Manuscript Pen Co Ltd (I am a shareholder, Director and Company Secretary). This has been rejected on the grounds that it violates a copyright but the D.Leonardt & Co Crown trademark 2794 belongs to us, Manuscript Pen Co Ltd. How do I submit proof of this to Wikipedia? Malissastockbridge (talk) 12:16, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

First, the article text was mostly a reworded version of [[1]]. In fact, most of your sources are from your own website. Those do not count as third-party, and thus are considered unreiable. The article is also not written from a neutral point of view. The specific line "Our colourfully designed range of decorated pens and markers are suitable both for educational purposes and practical everyday use," is simply ad copy. Copyright isn't the only issue here. I'm a somewhat new editor as well, and I want to say thanks for the contribution. However, some additional work must be done before the article can be accepted. Wywin (talk) 12:25, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Manuscript Pen Co Ltd

Before I start editing, please confirm whether I can use the D. Leonardt & Co trade mark and whether any links to our website are admissable. Obviously we own the copyright to our website but I can understand that it is a marketing website so not impartial! What is this best way to get more help if I need it? Malissastockbridge (talk) 12:34, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm afraid I cannot answer with much certainty. I would ask the Articles for Creation help desk. They would also be the best place to go for any additional questions. Good luck in your endeavors! Wywin (talk) 12:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Red Coach's article

Hello Wywin, I've corrected the Red Coach's article i wanted to post. Articles for Creation - Socialbakers

Good evening,

I`ve just get the information that you declined the submission of my article about Socialbakers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Socialbakers). The reason, why did you decline the article is that "This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms, that are designed to promote or show-off the subject."

My question is, what specific parts of the text violate/don`t comply to the terms of Wikipedia`s rules.

Thanks,

Michal.smetana (talk) 21:34, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

A lot of the "Products and Services" section reads a lot like an advertisement. Use of "you" and the second person is generally not accepted as formal tone on Wikipedia. In addition, while there are a good number of citations to the site itself, a couple more third-party sources would be helpful. The first couple sections look good, if some of the "you" instances could be rewritten. You're getting there! Wywin (talk) 21:54, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. I will work on the use of "you" instances, however, what if there are no more external sources to be used? You are writing that it would be helpful to use citations from a "couple more third-party sources", nonetheless, I didn`t find any more sources than there are already that would cite this page. What then?
Thanks,
Michal.smetana (talk) 22:09, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
The subject may not be notable according to Wikipedia standards. I cannot say either way for sure, but I will let another editor take a look at it when you resubmit to AFC, and let them voice their opinion as well. I'm still learning the ins and outs of the policies (for there are a great many), and cannot make firm decisions either way in terms of notability. I must say, you did a great job composing the article, notable or not. Hope that helps! Wywin (talk) 22:24, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello! I'm afraid your article is covered by WP:NOTADVERTISING. Hope that helps! Wywin (talk) 18:37, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Wywin. Do you think it's worth trying to rectify the article or will it never pass the wikipedia advertising rules. We basically just wanted to create a page to remind South Africans that's abroad of things back home. Should we rather not use products at all?

Your help is greatly appreciated

I'm afraid Wikipedia is not the place for such content. Have a look at WP:NOT#OR. Sorry! Hope that answers your question. Wywin (talk) 08:48, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Covenanter Church, Grand Pré, Nova Scotia AFC

Hi Wywin. I've gone ahead an accepted Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Covenanter Church, Grand Pré, Nova Scotia, which you previously declined as non-notable. As a recognized Canadian Historic Place and the "oldest extant Presbyterian Church in Canada" its notability is well asserted. The references are pretty good too. Article for Creation - "Job Embeddedness"

Dear Wywin,

My colleague and I are PhD students who wrote this article as part of a class project. We were recently informed that you deleted our proposed article because you think it reads like an essay.

"Job embeddedness" is an important organizational topic (Google Scholar currently lists ~1,450 results for "job embeddedness") and we would like to eventually re-submit the article. Please suggest concrete steps we can take to address your concerns, or else approve the article.

Thank You, IOtoGO (talk) 15:39, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Bombs And Bottles

Hello and thanks for latest feedback to the Bombs And Bottles article I submitted. I am new to wikipedia article creations and am just trying to get this set up properly. I will go ahead and change the reference for that quote because I accidentally used the wrong one. Any other suggestions that you have for me besides what you wrote?

Michaelgr43 (talk) 16:53, 23 October 2012 (UTC)BombsAndBottles

It looks good. Being new is perfectly fine, and to be honest there's quite a bit of stuff to wrap one's head around. However, with a desire to learn, ability to deal with criticisms, and a friendly attitude, I'm sure you'll be fine. One point is to make the footnotes (the [1] after references) correspond to their sources. H:FOOT and WP:INCITE have more about citing and footnotes. You're getting close! Get the citations and external links (WP:EXT) all pretty looking, resubmit it, and I'll let another reviewer have a look at it. If you have any other questions, looking around in the Help and Wikipedia namespaces should help, or you can ask me. Hope that helps! Wywin (talk) 17:10, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Abhyudaya Bank

hi,

thanks for reviewing my article. i appreciate your valuable feedback. since you have rejected my article submission "abhyudaya bank" [2]. i would like to know as to whether deleting the services section will help?. and i will be adding additional and independent sources for the page. other than the above changes what more should be added to make the article eligible for an approval.

regards.--Shd25 (talk) 14:52, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Removing the services section would certainly help. Aside from that, it looks pretty solid. I'll let another reviewer look at it, and see where it goes from there. Thanks for your submission, and hope that helps! Wywin (talk) 16:55, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

hello again,

based on your recommendation i have done the said changes and re-submitted the article,

  • deleted the services section.
  • added independent reliable sources to the article.
  • i guess it doesn't look like a advertisement anymore.

do have a look at the updated article [3]and hoping for a positive outcome,

thanks.--Shd25 (talk) 16:22, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Bombs And Bottles

Ok great, I'll go ahead and do that. Just to be clear, I can continue to edit add information in each month or so after the original one gets submitted, correct? Michaelgr43 (talk) 22:51, 23 October 2012 (UTC) BombsAndBottles

I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but nothing is set in stone. Articles, and articles for creation can both be changed indefinitely (although if an article is accepted it is moved into the normal namespace. WP:NS for more about namespaces). If you have content to add or remove that would benefit any article, not just your own, feel free! Wywin (talk) 21:24, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Chicago Agent Magazine

Dear Wywin,

I've been attempting to get a page started for Chicago Agent Magazine, a trade publication for real estate professionals based in Chicago; I've eliminated any perfunctory adjectives and descriptions and have nearly every statement and historical fact backed up by third-party publications, including Crain's and the Chicago Tribune, two of the most noted publications in Chicago, yet the article was denied for the second time for inadequate sourcing; is that because of the introductory paragraph, which references the Chicago Agent website? If so, how can I edit those sources in that first paragraph? That's not clear, based on how the article creation page is laid out.

Thank you

UPDATE: Wywin, I left this original comment nearly a month ago, and have received no replay; please advise to my original question.

YoknapatawphaKid (talk) 18:47, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Forgive me, I was unsure how to answer, meant to get back to it, and it got lost in my mind. Referencing first-party sources is fine, as long as there are also third party sources, which I find you have as well. If you want to resubmit to AFC, I'll let another editor give their opinion. Sorry, and well done on the article! Wywin (talk) 20:09, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

No worries! Thank you for responding, and for your compliments on the article! Let's hope your good tidings lead to it getting approved :-D. YoknapatawphaKid (talk) 18:43, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Article rejected due to lack of references

My article Hiding Place (band) was rejected for lack of references. The reason for creating the article was to make it clear that there are two bands named Hiding Place - one, a Scottish band for whom a Wiki already exists, the other the Welsh outfit that I created the article for.

There are no references, since their sole recorded output was the broadcast referred to in the article, but the lack of references are surely the point - there can't be any references until someone creates the first reference, and that's what I'm trying to do here...... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musicfan1353 (talkcontribs) 23:35, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject.

Hi Wywin,

I had my article rejected 10 days ago and below is the reason why. (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/BulbAmerica.com) I went to your link regarding Wikipedia referencing to find out about citations for "secondary sources." But I didn't see anything referencing "secondary sources" on that web page. Can you explain more clearly?

What you can do: Add citations (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject.

My wikipedia page I created for Clone Systems, Inc. was accepted. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clone_Systems,_Inc. Can you explain it to me using the accepted page as a reference? Sorry to be slow about this. But I'm totally lost.

Article for creation - "Job Embeddedness" - **revised as per your suggestions**

Dear Wywin,

On October 22nd, you declined our article for creation ("Job Embeddedness") for the following reasons:

"Sounds more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Submissions should summarise information in secondary, reliable sources and not contain opinions or original research. Please write about the topic from a neutral point of view in an encyclopedic manner."

We contacted you on October 23rd in an attempt to get more concrete feedback regarding your objections to our submission, but have received no reply. In the meantime, we revised our article as per your suggestions. This includes re-writing it so that it sounds more encyclopedic and more neutral. We also eliminated much of the jargon. However, please keep in mind that this is NOT original research - it is indeed a summary of the existing research with many reliable, secondary sources from scholarly journals.

Today (November 3rd), we resubmitted our (revised) article. Could you please review this revised version and let us know if your concerns were appropriately addressed? This time, instead of deleting our article right away, we would appreciate it if you could first engage us in a discussion regarding any potential problems.

Again, we are PhD students who wrote this article as part of a class project, and would very much like to see an article on this important organizational topic appear on Wikipedia.

Thank You, IOtoGO (talk) 00:24, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Hookman Marlin Bonds Article

Hi there.

Thanks for taking the time to review my article for creation. When I see references of all types I get confused and I don't understand how these other pages can go live. Can you please refer to this very similar live page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuego_%28producer%29 to see what I'm talking about. The article that I'm trying to complete, the person is mentioned in a fair amount of wiki pages for songs that he's played a role in creating. That should count for something shouldn't it? Let me know when you have a minute to help me out with this article. QuesoCabeza (talk) 18:47, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Arguments like "But this page..." are covered by WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, meaning that since Wikipedia is a community, it is hard to have hard and fast rules. The article is well written and thorough, and I don't doubt the subject is noteworthy. However, you have to establish that notability via citations and sources. The links in the decline notice should help some more. If you add some more sources and resubmit, I'm sure that it will get approved! Wywin (talk) 19:18, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi There Wywin,

Can you check out the references on this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monsters_and_The_Strangerz

Would you say that the Yahoo link is notable? I'm just seeing so many pages with lackluster references and it's mind numbingly frustrating! We are all at the mercy of someone else's opinion with all of this so I'm just baffled by what gets through versus what doesn't. Any sage advice on the differences between my article and this one? Thanks! QuesoCabeza (talk) 21:41, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

I understand your frustation. However, it is (hopefully) not up to one person. I have looked over your page, and it has been significantly improved. To facilitate community consensus, I will let another editor review the article, and he/she can voice their opinions. Hope the helps! Wywin (talk) 13:13, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Borderlands franchise article

Dear Wywin

The page I have been making borderlands franchise has unfortunately declined because the franchise has only two games. However I would like to argue that the franchise is popular and is likely to grow, currently there is also other media the borderland franchise has such as the borderlands novel and a borderlands comic book. Also the borderlands is likely to announce a borderlands 3 due to the stellar reception from borderlands 2.

It's a highly successful franchise therefore it's extremely likely 2K games will continue to make games under the borderlands franchise. The page offers an very informative insight over the franchise and will be updated as the franchise expands.

Thanks so much for reading!

Getting approval for the Epic Proportions Tour page

Hello,

I am the owner of the Epic Proportions Tour and I would like to know what steps I have to take to get my article for the Epic Proportions Tour approved. We listed numerous articles which reference our company from respected sources in the industry and yet it was still declined because of insufficient reliable sources. Would you mind explaining why the sources that we listed were not reliable? We put references to articles created by industry respected companies about our company. In these articles, our company was the main topic in these articles.

Your prompt help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

He is a renowned actor in the Indian movie circle, and a very famous personality in Indian TV Serials. You can find him mentioned on IMDB (The International Movie Database) and you can find countless mentions of him across various news sources at (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Please do help me understand why you chose to delete the article compared to researching on your own about it and improving the wealth of Wikipedia.

Your rollback request

Hi Wywin, I have granted rollback rights to your account in accordance with your request. Please be aware that rollback should be used to revert vandalism/spam/blatantly unconstructive edits, and that using it to revert any other type of edit - such as by revert-warring or reverting edits you disagree with - can lead to it being removed from your account...sometimes without any warning depending on the admin who becomes aware of any misuse. If you think an edit should require a reason for reverting, use a manual edit summary instead of using the rollback tool. For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 18:12, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Cole Harbour

Wywin, Thought it wasn't you, I am wondering if you are more frequent editor of the Cole Harbour page? I am from Cole Harbour and just removed, under notable people, 'The Creator of The Core, Jared MacFadgen.' There is no reference to anything and after some research I cannot find out what that might actually mean.

Only letting you know because I saw you were last to edit (today). I am new here as well.

Best,

Patriots

Hello Wywin!

I can understand you critic. But i must also point out that the text added was also a form of critic to the ending part of of that piece. It categorised the patriots as beeing almost divinely illuminated. Such a conclusion is just some random historican's conclusion, I therefore dare to say that such information is misleading and should not be part of an encyclopedia. If you do agree with me on this, you have to remove that final part: "Finally, Labaree argues that Loyalists were pessimists who lacked the Patriots' confidence that independence lay ahead."

If you do not agree with this I feel that you have put yourself on a piedestal allowing some information and censuring other and then you should put back what I added. If you view this in an entirely other manner, feel free to express your opinion.

Requirements for references/citations

Hi Wywin,

I submitted an article which was declined for lack of reference. I was wondering if there is a specific number of citations/references needed, or is there a specific type of reference.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitcheemitch (talkcontribs) 21:36, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Manner of citation

Hi Wywin, we received a submission decline from you regarding this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Qnap). You mentioned that Wikipedia cannot cite itself. But I saw that many organizations did so, e.g. Acer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_Inc.#cite_note-EncycBus2-6), or Synology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synology). I don't know what you exactly means and what to do next. Could you advise more specifically where we did wrong? Thanks. Elsachangtw (talk) 06:08, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Actually, yes, I don't understand why you reverted my contribution: this election is highly sensitive and we still don't know who will win between Fillon and Copé. I'm very suprised that you consider as vandalism a text saying that's it is not accurate to pretend that Copé has won: you just have to read any newspaper published since a week to understand that this issue far more complicated than what you seem to be keen to publish! 78.249.246.48 (talk) 18:30, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Wywin, why don't you ever answer?

I made an addition to a wikipedia article concerning the americans patriots during the 18:th century. You removed this change and posted this: "Hello, I'm Wywin. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Patriot (American Revolution) because it didn't appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Wywin (talk) 13:55, 26 November 2012 (UTC)." But I'm inclined to believe that this curtesy was only superficial and false because you have not yet after several days made an reply to my comment. When I look upon your talk page you have many people that are asking questions of you and by the looks of it you have made more than 1000 rollbacks these last couple of days. Because of this I'm actually starting to think that the only thing you are after is som form of credit in the wikipedia community rather than an interest in the encyclopedia in itself. If you think I am wrong, feel free to reply.

[1]

I generally only reply to messages that are either 1. friendly and neutral in tone or 2. questions that are not directly covered by the articles linked in the stock responses given by the various tools I use. The attacking nature of your comments makes me believe that you are going to be argumentative and disrespectful in your communications, and I don't really want to deal with that. If you wish to proof-read your comments, and compose it in a neutral tone, I would be happy to respond. -- Wywin (talk | contribs) 23:35, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
I see that it might be viewed as aggressive. And by some rights it should given that you just failed to answer. Learn from this and just answer people's questions especially since you ask for them yourself. I'm not certain that censorship should be veiled that easily. Sure there are straight up vandalism, but sometimes there are two sides to a story. And frankly, an added comment concerning the relevance of certain earlier quite biased input (the opinon of one historican) is only a way to rewrite history. Many people read wikipedia as a source of knowledge and surprisingly many cannot see what is facts and what is not. An encyclopedia should open up people's mind, not indoctrinate them. I was wondering what your opinon on this matter was since you now rammage the web potentially censoring things, feel free to reply. Don't missunderstand me though; it's a great thing you're doing, as long as you don't subjectively choose what is allowed and what is not. This is not an attempt at any harrasment, just constructive criticsm. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.227.120.26 (talk) 02:06, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a venue for original research. Certainly, by presenting multiple sides of a contested issue (politics and so forth) is important, but all the content must be verifiable with reliable sources. The edit you made to the article Patriot (American Revolution) was both non-neutral and uncited. Does that make sense? -- Wywin (talk | contribs) 02:15, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for welcome - tips for course page?

Hello - you kindly welcomed my user talk page. I have applied for instructor right to create a course page here but no one has responded. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions? Many thanks!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 16:53, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

It looks like someone addressed it now. I think you will find that "doing something wrong" on Wikipedia is fairly difficult, aside from vandalism, page blanking, and destructive behavior. The only things I can think to add is to try and be patient; Wikipedia is quite immense, and some areas get more attention than others. There is a Wikipedia policy that states: "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it." (WP:IGNORE) The other comment is to be sure to experiment, ask questions, and be sure to use your sandbox! Wikipedia has some unique and sometimes obtuse syntax, but you'll pick it up over time. I hope that helps, and feel free to ask any other questions! -- Wywin (talk | contribs) 18:58, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

If you have any questions, I will do my best to help you, or you can place the template {{helpme}} on your user or talk page, and someone should be quick to help! welcome

thanks for the welcome, Wywin. I appreciate the communication. I feel like such a neophyte. I just started learning how to use Wikipedia with an account, editing and article and using talk. I've already made many mistakes. My goal is to get a class of mine in mediated communication to add to a stub/start up article on mass communication, mass media, online newspapers or magazines (online) etc. in up to 2 pages of text. I'm a little concerned about the formatting/editing aspects of an article, and somehow need to simplify it for them. Do you have any help with that? Teach270 (talk) 21:52, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Mistakes are to be expected when learning something new, and Wikipedia is no exception. Luckily, since each article keeps its revision history, it is easy to undo mistakes! I would recommend using your sandbox and the preview button to check how formatting and layout stuff looks before you submit them. As for simplifying for students, the VisualEditor is in early stages of development, but makes editing and formatting much easier for the layman. It requires a logged in user account, but may be what you're looking for. The cheatsheet on formatting may be helpful as well. As long as you are willing to learn and communicate, I think you will find most editors more than accepting of a few early mistakes. -- Wywin (talk | contribs) 22:00, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Usernames

Hi Wywin. I noticed you've filed a number of recent reports at WP:UAA about users with no edits. As I have learned from experience, the admins generally don't take action unless a user has made edits. Even though it's tempting to report a user with an account name that is almost certainly promotional, admins usually fall back on WP:AGF if the user hasn't actually done anything. Just thought this might spare you some effort with reports that won't be acted upon. Cheers. --Drm310 (talk) 06:08, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

War of Legends edit

Hello there, this is AceHarbinger, former top War of Legends user. I think it is helpful; prospective users of a product or service should know the risks entailed with usage or purchase of said product or service. There are very few ways in which players can be forewarned of the likelihood of being scammed by Jagex from the get-go. If you don't believe me that this is the case with the game, I suggest you either play it yourself, or easier and quicker yet, take a look at all the fury and hatred directed at Jagex on the forums by the vast majority of players. I have sent in a complaint to ic3.gov requesting that they look into the criminal organization and have requested that others do so as well so that the company may be taken down by the international law enforcement agency. However, they are slow to respond until more people file complaints, so in the meantime, I wish to help future players. Whatever your personal moral set of values may be, I trust that you're a good enough person to agree that scamming individuals through false advertising, fraud, and blackmail are unacceptable. Please choose the right side on this issue. If you need the evidence to see that I'm right, please visit their site and see for yourself. Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.54.119.50 (talk) 19:57, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

While all this may be true, Wikipedia is not the place for such information, especially worded in such a hostile manner, as your edit was. If the outrage is as widespread as you say, any user should be aware of any issues while reading about the game, yes? Please have a look at Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion before you continue editing. Thanks! -- Wywin (talk | contribs) 20:02, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this is not the case with the game. Jagex regularly deletes comments of dissent and so they don't last on the forums very long. It is only if you view the forums consistently over time that you recognize how pervasive the problem is. Additionally, because sites such as wikipedia (however minimally) promote the game while attempting to take an unbiased view of it, most players are not aware until after they've attempted to purchase in-game products. As far as removing the hostility in my post: fair enough. You can understand that as I have watched Jagex scam tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars out of its player base, I may have generated some animosity towards the company. If you would be so kind, then, to edit the warning to remove that anger so as to follow your policies and still provide the benefit to prospective users of at least being aware of the risk they take in paying to play the game, I would be incredibly appreciative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.54.119.50 (talk) 20:07, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Conflict of Interest

Hi Wywin,

Thank you for your note. I have read, and am aware of the Conflict of Interest policy at Wikipedia, and I am keen to operate within the rules that have been set.

Going forward, John Laing Plc have requested that I look into making a number of other updates to their page. None of these would involve removing content already there, but simply adding in new information about the company which would unequivocally improve the page for readers.

Whilst you are right to be cautious, and indeed skeptical of anyone modifying a page with a COI, I do believe that the changes that have been requested will help to serve the purpose of Wikipedia at least as much as that of my client.

Looking at the "five pillars of Wikipedia" and in particular, pillars 3 "Wikipedia is free content that anyone can edit, use, modify, and distribute" and five, "Wikipedia does not have firm rules", providing that due respect was shown at all times to pillars two "Wikipedia is written from a neutral point of view" and four "Editors should treat each other with respect and civility" whilst keeping in mind the ultimate purpose contained in the first pillar, "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia", I was hoping that in the interests of accuracy and expediency, I might be able to make these additional changes myself.

I will of course take you guidance on this issue.

Many thanks,

Theo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.0.46.98 (talk) 09:40, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
