Very new here and trying to do my best[edit]

Any help is welcome. Rezimmerman (talk) 16:54, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What help do you need? GBT/C 16:54, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am working on a biography of Matt Mahurin in my user area. I realize I have done something very wrong, because it is being picked up by Googlebot and other search spiders. I am unclear how to stop this - or if I have simply approached this in the incorrect way. I am very new to this, but would like to provide informative content where I am able. Rezimmerman (talk) 17:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What's wrong with it being picked up by Google? Presumably you're working on it prior to moving over to the main article space? GBT/C 17:15, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see...thanks much
This just seemed wrong to me. I was concerned that my procedure was incorrect. Thanks for your help very much. You are correct that I will be moving this to the main article space shortly. Rezimmerman (talk) 17:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Mahurin[edit]

Hi Rezimmerman. I came across the new article on Matt Mahurin which you wrote, and thought it was good. I've just nominated it for Did You Know?, the list of facts from new articles which appears on the main page. If it's accepted it should appear around Saturday and someone will notify you. Here's hoping it gets on!

Also, I notice now that you're new to Wikipedia. Having your work appear on the main page would be a nice accomplishment for your first week, wouldn't it? Let me wish you welcome to Wikipedia, and please don't hesitate to ask at my talk page if you have any questions or need advice. Happy editing! Olaf Davis | Talk 20:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing some of those references for me on Matt Mahurin, Olaf. It gives me a better understanding of how those should be used.Rezimmerman (talk) 19:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Mahurin[edit]

Updated DYK query On 24 May, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Matt Mahurin, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Hello and congrats on the above article! It is quite good. However it has one major problem that needs to be fixed, and I wonder if you can help with that? You have used inline links like this very frequently. Unfortunately these are generally not allowed in the body of an article, per WP:EXTERNALLINKS. The correct was to cite something is within the ref tags (I use the WP:REFTOOLBAR) like this.[1] Do you think you can help to fix all those external links?--- Possibly (talk) 23:50, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. In this case the external links are referencing art work that is directly referred to and for the edification of the reader, those links to external images seem necessary for educational purposes since the actual art in question can not be displayed in the public domain.
Hi,. That does not matter. They are not allowed and have to be removed. See the above policy: "External links normally should not be placed in the body of an article." Are you able to help correct this?--- Possibly (talk) 02:02, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see you also removed the template noting the external link problem. You have enough edits here to know that you should not remove templates like this, as the links are a problem and you did not fix the problem. --- Possibly (talk) 02:04, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your help! I accidentally removed the template alerting me of the external links problem BEFORE correcting the problem! I did correct the external links problem afterwards and very much appreciate your help. Sorry for the trouble on your part. I do my best to help. You're very kind to help me out and I appreciate it very much. Hang in there!
Just removed that template you posted again with a note. Not clear what the objection is from a policy perspective. The external links are provided for educational purposes. I did remove external links to generic terms such as dog and cat which were clear mistakes on my part. Much appreciate your help and many thanks!
Stop removing the template; you can be blocked for doing so repeatedly. I can see what you are trying to do: illustrate the article by linking directly to the visual example. However, we just don't do that on Wikipedia. If you go to this list of artists and randomly pick any ten artists, you should find that pretty close to none of your choices have external links in their articles. I think the policy is there to prevent promotion via external linking, and to keep the focus on a neutral Wikipedia article. Make sense? Also, you need to WP:SIGN your posts.--- Possibly (talk) 02:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the honors and awards section: there are about a dozen external links in that section. There are another dozen in the "stylistic approach" section. they can either be removed, or converted to a reference if the source is a good one. --- Possibly (talk) 02:47, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your help. If you don't mind, I enjoy contributing to the public knowledge on the arts at Wikipedia and have been doing so for many years. An external link such as Google and a citation such as [1] we know that they both either resolve accurately at the end of the day or they do not. They are both either correct or incorrect, wouldn't you say? From a policy prospective, what's seen as the difference between an inline link and a citation? I personally think it's preferable for a reader to be able to click on an inline link to quickly see an example of what the text is describing (as long as a citation is also provided), rather than having to scroll to the bottom of the page (references) to click and visit exactly the same correct or incorrect link. Your thoughts?
I appreciate you very much out there.
This isn't a discussion of what works best for you, it's an explanation of the accepted community guideline for external links (i.e. links to sites outside Wikipedia) in articles. Simpler: you can't make up your own external links rules. Not having external links in the body of articles is the established guideline; the dozens, if not hundreds of links that you have spammed into your articles are going to have to come out. The other reason for our current discussion is so that you can learn about he accepted community guideline on external links and start using it, thus creating less work for other editors. My general thoughts are that it sounds like you don't want to respect established Wikipedia guidelines and would like to invent one of your own. That's not a great strategy for an encyclopedia that is built on collaboration. Also, learn to sign your posts.--- Possibly (talk) 05:26, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. --- Possibly (talk) 02:42, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to use disruptive, inappropriate or hard-to-read formatting, as you did at Bill Mayer (illustrator), you may be blocked from editing. There is a Wikipedia Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Use of embedded links in the article is strictly prohibited. scope_creepTalk 12:33, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you use Wikipedia for promotion or advertising, as you did at Joe Ciardiello. [edit]

I've just noticed on your web page that you manage the Illoz and Drawger websites. The disclosure is sort of hidden at the bottom, and even uses the "small"tag to make part of the font smaller. Looking at your contribs for the past many years, you have repeatedly added sources for these sites, so that is not so good as it could be seen as promotion. Are some of the articles you have made paid articles, i.e. have you been paid for writing these articles directly or indirectly? --- Possibly (talk) 05:53, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Since this COI appears to be quite significant (adding and arguing for Drawger links, as above, without disclosing that), I've started a discussion at the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard. --- Possibly (talk) 06:06, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Buzelli moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Chris Buzelli, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 12:46, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
