Portugal and Spain confirmed bidders?

Hello, as the creator and uploader of Image:Map of 2018 FIFA World Cup bids.svg you should know that Portugal and Spain are not confirmed bidders, because their federations and governments haven't reached yet any agreement on this matter. I don't have software to edit svg files, so can I point out that your map for 2018/2022 world cup bids could do with changing in light of the revelation that Egypt haven't made a bid after all. England 2018

Hey it's User:Hamilton8, thanks for your comments they are very much appreciated. I too had concern over the proposal cities and remember the old 2018 world cup page. I have to agree in the old page we just realised which stadia could be improved to a decent capacity and put it down. I thought the bid had come a long way since then and there is a lot of evidence out there of the stadiums that are being proposed which prompted me to update (with references of course). I did have a slight concern over the host cities, but for me i thought it would be okay when i stumbled over the page Ground improvements to football stadia in England. This is similar to the host cities section in that it is speculative so i thought it would be fine. I did put in the "future sport" banner on top to show this. Good point about changing the title, that does seem more appropriate. I'll take the stadium options away but what do you think about the similarities between the "Ground improvements" page? Football Performance graphs

Hi Patrik,

Ping me an email: payo2000@gmail.com , with the data you have and we can try and make a graph.

Basically you need a spreadsheet with columns for:

• year
• number of teams in each tier (or division) of the league (add a column for each tier)
• tier that the club you are interested was playing in each year
• final position of the club in that tier in for each year

... then we can draw a chart.

15 years isn't much - so it should be easy to make a graph.

I use Open Office Calc because it has a much better charts package than MS Excel (and it is free) but I can translate just about any data format that you might have. --Payo (talk) 21:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Your 2018 World cup bids map

Why is western sahara ( apparently non-CAF) in a dark grey rather than the standard light grey? -- SGBailey (talk) 09:36, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

(Your reply pasted from my talk page) Western Sahara is the same gray as the other countries. It's probably just because its surrounded by the orange color that makes it look darker. But actually, Western Sahara isn't recognized by FIFA and isn't in a conference, though its sort of in the N.F.-Board. D.C. United task force

Hi Patrick -- I'm creating a new task force page for D.C. United with goals in place to improve the quality of all United-related articles. I've noticed you made many contributions to D.C. United's main Wikipedia entry, and are a member of WikiProject Football, which the task force page is under the scope of. I was curious to know if you would be interested in joining the group? Sure thing, just added my name. How can I help? I think the biggest project with the D.C. United page will be getting good sources for the History section. If that can be sourced well, it'll spill over into the other sections, and I'm sure it can be pushed to FAC after a peer review. Hey, sorry, I missed your message before about the DC United page. My edit to the list of stadiums must have looked weird in the context of your message - sorry about that, I didbn't intend for it to come across that way. I'd love to be involved in the taskforce (as I am already, sort of by default...). As for your question about the level of standard of the page, I think we should look more to the Seattle Sounders FC page than ones in England for inspiration. MLS pages have some league-specific things that don't really fly with the pages for Chelsea etc., so IMHO it would be better to try to emulate the standards of that page, especially as doing so will give the DC United page an internal consistency with it and the other MLS team pages in terms of section hierarchy, ordering, etc. Improving the prose in the various sections should be the first priority IMHO, so I'm very happy to work with you both on that. As far as the stadia are concerned... I was just following the lead of the Sounders page, which is already a FA. To me, it just makes sense to list the stadia as a bullet list with dates and locations to give the reader an overview, and then go into detail in the prose below. Patrick - You can help in wherever you see needed improvement to D.C. United articles, and help one of the primary goals, which is to make the main Wikipedia entry on United an FA. From what JonBroxton has said, he's dead on. We should emulated the style of writing and content used in the Sounders FC entry. It's written in American English, and has numerous sub-pages that are also featured articles and or lists.

JonBroxton - I completely agree. The Sounders FC entry is easily one of the strongest MLS-related entries on Wikipedia. The American English style of writing and the specific angle focused on the American version of the game. And by "league-specific", I'm presuming you mean the MLS Cup Playoffs, the "regular season", and how the playoffs are not a cup tourney but rather a culmination of the regular season?

Yes, but not only that - I was meaning things like the Broadcasting section of the page, which is unique to MLS teams as they negotiate their own local TV rights and have their own commentary teams, whereas UK clubs are all contracted solely to Sky Sports and the BBC. The Sounders entry is good, though I don't know if we need to be emulating it section by section so much. I'm not sure, for example, that we should abandon the Template:Fs player format which is used on nearly 8,000 other team articles. When I started working on D.C. United, I had hoped to get it to FA first, and set its format as the model for other MLS teams, but after the push to GA in 2009, I saw that we just didn't have the referencing for a FAC, and haven't been as involved. I would sure be up for working with the Sounders task force (basically just User:Skotywa, who's expressed his openness to helping out before). As it is, DCU is still the only other GA level MLS article (I'm not counting New York Cosmos just yet!).

Going through European team FAs, I do see a pattern, especially among the less notable teams, in the organization and style, with headings like "Colors and crest", "Stadia", "Supporters", "Honors", and that's what I tried to emulate in 09. The broadcasting is unique for MLS, though the league does have its own arrangements for nationally televised games, like the playoffs, and weekly games on ESPN and Univision and such. I imagine European teams are also broadcast on the radio, though most don't seem to note this. I'd lumped broadcasting into the "Ownership and marketing" section because it was so short, and I hadn't seen it broken out elsewhere. "Media coverage" is also the heading used on Major League Soccer. Anyway, some thoughts, but much to be done!-- Patrick, _oѺ^∞ 20:56, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

I have created a new article branching off of D.C. United about the D.C. United Hall of Tradition. I based most of the layout and sort tables after Norwich City F.C.'s Hall of Fame page, and hopefully it came out well for the time being.
