Potiential Banning[edit]

Hi, if i were banned, re: last warning message, how long would my ban last?

would i be able to edit in future? Yes i clearly make some poor choices in my editing style, often applying create licence to topical issues, however, occasionally i do post something that is quite legitimate and indeed credible. So, lets just say i am currently having a hormonal lapse in judgement... would my actions of late lead to a permanent ban, curbing the career of a genius? or a temporary ban.. just long enough for me to cool off a bit?

your response would be appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiGremlin (talkcontribs)

deletion of 'pisschrist' page[edit]

i wish question the deletion of this page, as pisschrist the band has toured south-east asia. and under the notable band guidlines: "Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country." i believe the page should therefore be able to remain.

QXZ-Ads[edit]

Hello Longhair, I am HB4026, and User:VirtualSteve, User: Sarah and I (who are all members of WP:Australia) were wondering if it is a good idea if we place an advertisment on qxz-ads to attract new members. With the advice of User:Sarah we thought that we should run it through you because you are the 'big cheese' in WP: Australia. Do you think it is feasable? Harrison-HB4026 09:47, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thankyou for responding to my request. I have already placed a note on the WP:AUS talk page. I also asked User: Sarah (Who I know you are familiar with) and another user, and Sarah said that we would really only need to ask you. Harrison-HB4026 02:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Longhair. Have you got any ideas regarding the banner for the ad? Harrison-HB4026 06:56, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Townsville Wikiproject[edit]

Hi Longhair, thanks for your help with wikiproject Townsville, could you tell me why articles which have been assessed for their importance to Wikiproject Australia do not automatically go into the appropriate cat under Wikiproject Townsville rating, at the moment all articles have automatically gone into the "none" importance cat. Thanks, 12:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

List of Veterans of the First World War[edit]

NO Thank you for changing "Veterans of the First World War who died in 2007" to "List of". Actually, it's NOT a list. A list organizes things in an order such as numerical ranking or alphabetical order. Rather, it's a compilation of tables. Also, even if it was a 'list' isn't that inferred? No need to be so banal and just make Wikipedia more bloated. The key word should be "Veterans", not "List."R Young {yakłtalk} 09:12, 14 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hello. I am currently involved in an effort to make the Wikipedia deletion sorting project and process more accessible and efficient. I recently encountered the deletion sorting page noted above, which you created in June 2006. I believe that the page is overly specific and of limited utility, and ought to be deleted. If you agree with my assessment, would you please tag the article with {{db-author}} or, as you are an admin, just delete it yourself? If you do not agree, would you please let me know why? Thanks, Black Falcon 06:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you added the unreferenced tag to this article. I'm just curious as to what exactly it is you feel needs referencing? It doesn't bother me as I didn't actually write the article in the first place, but I'm currently researching Hollway and I could almost certainly find whatever references are needed.Teiresias84 09:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's the prob w/ the Hummus?[edit]

I went through the article awhile ago and added a bunch of references, what more do you want added? I'm perfectly willing to cite sources if you could tell me what you disagree with. Trcunning 09:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Image tagging for Image:IdaBagusWiswantanu.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:IdaBagusWiswantanu.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Image:Ronbakir.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ronbakir.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. No References[edit]

You tagged my page on Kim's cabin as not using references...how does one reference when a person is using only their memory and information from a few postcards that Wikipedia refuses to post?? The problem is there are no web references to cite...I am perplexed...I was hoping this story would get additional information from other users...I drove to the locations to see what was there now...how do I document that?? I could cite aerial photos from google, but they would be removed as copyright violation...

hey how do i email you? send me your real email to my myspace and i will get it.

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Mohammed_Bijeh_BBC_image.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 14:59, 4 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:David hicks.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:BristolLogo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BristolLogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hello, Longhair. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Kmkshot.jpg) was found at the following location: User talk:Longhair/Archive7. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. Cleanups[edit]

Yeah, I think WikiProject Australia more broadly has its biggest cleanup ever happening in little bits all over the place. It's definitely a positive development :) WP:VIC is a bit like WP:WA and WP:NT in that it covers new ground, which is great - so now it's just a matter of running all over the Wiki tagging things. I think some of the smaller/inactive Wikiprojects need to be reexamined and possibly integrated, I have some ideas on this but they're probably controversial. Orderinchaos 07:54, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW I've just replaced all the old Hobart tags with Tasmania. Is there a way to check using categories if there are any remaining? Orderinchaos 10:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. BTW I brought Outback NSW back from the dead and renamed it NSW, might have to look at getting that to go live soon. Orderinchaos 11:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It amazing what putting off uni essays can do for the project :P SatuSuro 13:35, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Long beer[edit]

Or coffee, or orange juice or tea whatever over the vast array of underpop Oz cats - what to do how to do it and with what level of opacity so to speak :) SatuSuro 09:32, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What cats are we referring to? Orderinchaos 09:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Underpopulated_Australia_categories. I'll find the other ones I make mention of at SatuSuro's talk page shortly. -- Longhair\talk 09:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The by electorate ones are silly - especially as the electorate boundaries keep changing (it's a bit different to, say, mayors of an LGA). I ask what value such a categorisation has that a list under the electorate article would not provide. Orderinchaos 09:50, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW I am glad you two seem to have interlinking watches on each of our talk pages - it is a reassuring phenomenon that ones transgressions are being clearly viewed by those trusted with GF and reliability.

Back to the issue - if 0- 5 level population cats are considered as potential targets - who/how /what are the reduced target cats to replace - take for eg my comment to knobbly a few minutes ago - if all the tas subcats (or any project for that matter) are underpop'ed and show no sign of expanding - presumably the arts regress to the broader cat of tas - however, what concerns me in all projects (including indonesia and jakarta as the worst case scenario I have met so far) there are obviously expandable cats but there are no new arts being put in in recent times... I was under the impression that 20 or 30 minimum to escape the scrutiny of the keen to delete mob is part of the us cat delete army (hi ho silver!) trumpet call... Hi, Longhair.

I am curious to know, since no comments were left, why this article was rated start class. Yes, it's a short article. There are not a lot of written resources about Wendy Richardson, and personal research is not permitted here. The article covers:

  • Potted biography. Greater detail of her personal life are not necessary.
  • How she began writing.
  • Background to her major work Windy Gully .
  • Where and when her plays were produced.
  • How they were received
  • What makes her plays good for performance.
  • The scope of her work.
  • Five quotations of what others have said about Richardson and what she says about herself.
  • A list of her works and whether they have been published.
  • Her awards.
  • References are cited.
  • Links work
  • Pictures are good.

The article is grammatically correct, properly spelt, has been OK'd by Wendy for publication and is the envy of other local writers.

What more do you want from a short article about a living person?

--Amandajm 13:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think your rating of this article as "start class" is unwarranted, for the simple reason that it no longer exists; it has been merged with New South Wales Rural Fire Service. Someone should delete the talk page. Brianyoumans 17:19, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Biodiesel[edit]

I removed your table of VW vehicles that can run on biodiesel. Like I'm sure you know, practically all diesel vehicles can ran on biodiesel. Singling out VW and displaying a table of their vehicles amounts to an advertisement for VW, which is not an appropriate use for Wikipedia.

Hey, sorry I just saw that you had deleted a page, so I figure your an admin - and I was wondering if you had time could you take a look at this and decide whether it should be deleted or not. I was going to put a speedy tag up - but I noticed that a different editor had edited the talk page, and I wasn't sure which speedy to put on there. I reverted the changes you made to the article June 2007. As practiced in all month articles, the 'future scheduled events' are removed as the dates go by and are replaced by the Portal:Current events dates. Deletion - Star Trek: A Call To Duty[edit]

Good Morning. I would like to post my rebuttal for the reason listed for the deletion of this entry. Listed reason: an article about a web site, blog, online forum, webcomic, podcast, or similar web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject rebuttal:

  • The subject (Star Trek: A Call To Duty) is significant in the gaming history of this franchise in that it was the first online organization authorized by Paramount Pictures.
  • The subject is already mentioned under the entry Star Trek games role-playing section, and in the main article Star Trek (role-playing game)
  • A similar entry is in existance about the second official Paramount run gaming organization (Star Trek Simulation Forum) {a poor argument, I know. "They have one, why can't I?"'}

If it is an issue about the listing of the fleet roster, I will be happy to delete that section, leaving only the history of the organization. Waiting on your response--Letum 14:36, 14 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

thought - on template options[edit]

{{WP Australia}} I was doing some awb on the category:Unknown-importance Australia articles and thought that a tag like "review=yes" or something would be useful to single out any articles that appear to warrant another look as I seeing some which may not even be notable enough to warrant articles Gnangarra 02:39, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason that a couple of articles I looked at appear to be non notable subjects base on what I'm seeing so what I was looking for was a way while using AWB to tag those I want to go back to, to ensure they are note worthy Alby Mangels is case in point the talk page says please sign a petition to get his biography published, that rings bells that the notability of the subject is questionable. I didnt know of the attention tag, but I would presume this would be for something like Newscastle doesnt have anything on the recent storm or the boat running aground. (that reminds me the news here just said the Pasha Bulker is taking on water and leaking fuel) or you find a page where all the images have been removed cleanup tags etc added. Anyhow I open to suggestions. Gnangarra 04:50, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I remember him now, twas only a little tike then, he had the silly blonde that never wore anything more than a bikini top right :P. Ok I'll just use the attention=yes option, just looked at the template page and found attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; this should be used sparingly. think that may also put eds off using it. Maybe a "review=yes" this article requires a second opinion, start a section on the talk page called Review and a comment as to why it needs a review. option would encourage its use. could also use include a link with counter on the project page to monitor both. Gnangarra 05:10, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the attention parameter would actually be more useful if it generated a worklist, with recommended actions required. Currently it requires editors with nothing better to do to glance over the category and work out why the articles are there. Be bold. I'm on your side and can see where you're heading with this, and I'm sure your ideas are heading towards something a little more effective at weeding out the junk than the processes we currently have.
Now back onto Alby, yes, he did have a female assistant who wore very little. I remember going to see World Safari at the cinema. I was only a little tacker then myself, but he did receive major exposure at the time in the media. -- Longhair\talk 05:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do you do that?[edit]

Your talkpage displays remarkable skill - being a Scientist, I would hope to create one like yours! Can you lend me some tips, I would be most grateful,

Yours Sincerely,

User:Hortensio

I think that maybe some qualifier other than yes(though yes could be a generic catch all) would work, like

  • rating -- importance/class needs to be review (excluding unrated)
  • content -- needs wikifing, missing important content
  • policy -- concerns over WP:N, WP:V, or WP:NPOV
  • media -- subject of media commentary

Anyhow I wasnt thinking this detailed at the time, i was just being lazy looking for an easy way to capture articles that should be looked at outside of the production line AWB process. Each could be put it in a category, with a bot to maintain a counter page which could be transcluded into project page and ed's could also add to their links type page so that we quickly respond to tagged items. Gnangarra 06:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another one something for when an afd has closed. Gnangarra 06:22, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Afd -- subject of a recent AfD, address concerns/information raised during the dicussion
Agree its time to get a wider input, i dont see much point in not using the template options to its capacity in reality its only changing the word yes to "foo" on an option that isnt being used because people dont know how it works. BTW an open discusison on the furture direction of the template and what functionality would be of assistance is worth doing, from I've notice around the place this template is the example being used and copied by most higher level projects so lets go forth and break new ground. Do you want to start the page off and I'll follow or....Gnangarra 02:52, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DRV[edit]

Just letting you know, I did this. This was probably half my fault - I tagged the article and asked for a second opinion on notability and BLP, but missed the AfD template altogether :| Note my reasoning in the edit summary regarding removing the DRV entirely; there's no real pressing need to keep it there, given the speed with which the undeletion happened (just clogs up the page, in addition to the google indexing). Deleted Article[edit]

You recently deleted an entry I had written on Maralee Gordon. I would like to disagree with you on the point that she is insignificant- Rabbi Gordon has been an important leader in her own Jewish community and has had an influential role on expanding the boundaries of women within Judaism and incorporating theories of feminism into Jewish practice. If you visit the Jewish Women's Archive website, you will see that she is featured as one of a number of important Jewish women to the feminist movement. I would really appreciate it if you undeleted that entry, and I know there are many others who would strongly agree with my opinion. Thank you. Mrudnick87 15:30, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I see you deleted this article after a db-context tag was placed on it. Could you restore it so that I can expand upon it? Through discussion at WT:PLANTS, the consensus is that a taxobox and a single sentence is more than enough context for an article stub. Indeed, many of our thousands of articles are still only a taxobox and a sentence or two. Cheers, --Rkitko (talk) 17:51, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 17:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Canberra & Q-town[edit]

Have you ever been in Canberra, let alone Q-town. You have to admitt that it is a hole that no-one actually vists for a holiday. They are normally trying to find the quickest way out of there before they freeze to death or die from boredom. Then there is Q-town (aka Queanbyean, Queanbiehole, or just that whole), you can actually not walk through their without getting mugged and arse-raped, worse town in the whole of NSW, they would riot like Redfern but they actually cant afford matches let alone petrol for the molotov cocktails.

You speedied this as A7, and, IMHO, but for the article's having (ostensibly accurately) noted that amongst the group's membership is/was Geneviève Marchesseau, a member of another musical group, B2Krazy, about which we have an article (which, by virtue of the existence of such article, we may presume to be notable, although I'd observe that there is just one even partially non-trivial incoming link, such that these two articles might begin to form a walled garden, speedy would have been appropriate. Because WP:BAND, though, provides that a group is likely notable where its membership includes an individual who is a member of a (different) notable group, I think the article can be understood as having, at the very least, asserted notability, such that AfD/PROD would have been appropriate (in fact, I'd think we might do well to consider AfDing B2Krazy and The Groove Divas, neither of which appears notable [although an AfD might, of course, bear out evidence to the contrary], but in the meanwhile it remains correct that whilst the former article exists unchallenged, the latter article must be understood to have asserted notability—were B2Krazy kept, The Groove Divas would at the very least be redirected thither or to a created Geneviève Marchesseau), and so I wonder if you'd undelete as having not been speediable; I'd certainly not oppose an immediate, essentially procedural listing at AfD. Feel free to let me know at your convenience. Cheers, Joe 01:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Indeed, but it keeps us vandal watchers busy. Its a lot less boring if they're something interesting going on, eh? Obviously you'd rather have no vandalism at all, but we're still a while from that happening. Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 01:05, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VS Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your support and comments at my RfA
Hi Longhair, Despite having wiki friends like you it still amazes me that otherwise "anonymous" editors take the time to place !votes and comments on RfAs. Whilst I would have normally thanked you at the time of you leaving your message, the importance of my not appearing to be canvassing prevented me from so doing. Now that everything has progressed successfully I can finally thank you. I intend to uphold a style of good adminship and will welcome your further comments at any time in the future, even if they are in the form of admonishment. I will be happy to help as an admin wherever and whenever I can (and I can probably manage 400 clicks per hour)! --VS talk 23:23, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: WP:ADEL—WP:SA[edit]

Howdy Longhair. I've had plans for awhile to pursue it, but I've had to draw back from Wikipedia lately. In any merger, I'd retain the Adelaide assessment infrastructure. I think WP:PERTH ought to do something similar, as it's been essentially dead since WP:WA.--cj | talk 08:05, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I agree think it should be encouraged for each state, to merge all city/region based projects into a broader state based project Gnangarra 10:23, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Gnangarra on this one. NSW and VIC may be the exceptions, as their respective capital city projects relate to a subject of a size necessary to maintain a separation. Other non-capital city projects should however (IMO) be merged. Orderinchaos 13:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to be the odd one out - I think even dead city projects should be given metaphoric prods - like a kick or two - before merging - however if no work within a certain amount of time - i would agree with merging SatuSuro 06:30, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Serious panic[edit]

I got enthusiastic today about tagging - and only just now realised that using category in the project catholicism did not remove the next line the way the class NA does - is there anything tinkerable in their template - or is it penance and revisit each? SatuSuro 12:55, 30 June 2007 (UTC) WHat i mean can the innards be adjusted re the category to mean the same as NA?  ?  ? SatuSuro 12:58, 30 June 2007 (UTC) Am I beyond redemption? Please? SatuSuro 05:04, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category talk:Ancient Roman Christianity - is the one which I put the NA - and is how it seems best - as all the earlier ones tagged were with category and still had the importance question below the class=category. SatuSuro 05:07, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So if I get that - I should go back and retag them all as NA for everybodies sanity and mine ? SatuSuro 05:17, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WHat had concerned me was that a few hundred categories for that particular project now appear to have categories that are assessable - wont that stuff their assessment calculations? SatuSuro 05:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So it looks like to do what i have done in the oz case - tag with NA and ignore if any projects do have class- category relationships - as it is a mis-read?SatuSuro 05:29, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A final word on it all would be appreciated - continue in any project with NA and avoid use of category - unless it is sitting in the template? SatuSuro 05:58, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that sorry to have been such a nuisance - I Just had a peek inside the template - gawd - glad its you and not me going through all that - reminds me when I used to work in the oil industry doing exploration processing seismic stuff and getting woken up a 2 am with an operator saying, I think you got a comma out of place on your programme... sigh. Thanks for your hard work - cheers - and have a good week! SatuSuro 06:03, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Very impressed by the OZ class=cat - is much more logical than NA and NA - also it looks good - thanks for that! SatuSuro 06:13, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you need a chuckle[edit]

I blindly sped afl=yes into the regional leagues - checked that regional codes belong to sports project (despite the many regional codes with names xxx 'afl' - gawd the catholic project on the weekend, now this - so slowly and erratically reverting self - so afl and sports project tallies might be a bit odd until i have finished the cleanup :( SatuSuro 14:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the categories however really are quite marginal either way - my advice was that specific arts and cats that refer to the current afl are afl - and all else sports. I really think there should be a 'oz football' master category that holds the regional leagues (not necessarily a project) - however my head is not ready for that yet SatuSuro 14:14, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I mean to say - the example from a south australian article: now if there was a regional game linked from that page....

This Australian rules football-related article is a stub. You can help by expanding it.
Categories: Australian rules football competitions | Australian rules football stubs

It would follow unless the distinction was made very very clear in the afl project pages - that it would look like the afl tag on the discussion page would follow, not sports. Which talk/discussion location would you suggest a need for clarification on this? the sports/afl and oz project pages? SatuSuro 14:24, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unless I'm missing something, I don't actually see its that much of a problem. afl=yes|sport=yes is for Australian Football League. other leagues and associated articles can be simply sport=yes. If some non AFL articles are misnamed with the words AFL in the title, then they should be renamed. Can you give some examples? —Moondyne 14:38, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are not missing anything - I do not think on the afl or sports projects, (then again i might have missed something) actually have the distinction spelled out (for whoever follows that is) - however if I find something I'll let you know - longhair my apologies to have left all this here - trust all is well. I'll get out of your way. SatuSuro 14:48, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A possibility is that WP:AFL be expanded to include all Australian rules football articles, but thats been canvassed before - see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AFL#Australian rules WikiProject and no-one sounded too enthusiastic. —Moondyne 14:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alice Springs Juvenile Holding Centre[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Alice Springs Juvenile Holding Centre, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Fair use rationale for Image:GaryStevenMurphy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GaryStevenMurphy.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:Tallaal_adrey.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tallaal_adrey.jpg. Non-free use disputed for Image:WelcomeToWoopWoppSoundtrackCover.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:WelcomeToWoopWoppSoundtrackCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:ZuniDoll.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ZuniDoll.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  But|seriously|folks  05:01, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plus it used to scare the crap out of me! Seriously, it's replaceable because someone could take a free picture of it for use here. -- But|seriously|folks  05:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Wandabookcover.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Wandabookcover.jpg.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:45, 14 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Please[edit]

Could you indicate whether you can help - as there are issues that are emanating from this. Thanks. Using class=cat in the Australian template is concerning some as it is showing that its an unassessed importance - compared to using NA.

If you cannot tweak this - could you please alert someone who can (no offence meant) - as there is now a parallel and potentially confusing range of categories that I have placed NA and some with cat - it would be great for both to show - article not assessed as NA currently shows. I do hope there is something that can be done - cheers SatuSuro 06:50, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please - dont worry - it can wait - take it easy - that sort of thing can really knock you around - had 2 consecutive ones that basically wiped me out a couple of years ago, even a short one can be quite a knock. I have reverted io NA in my tagging for the moment anyways. cheers SatuSuro 02:22, 17 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Slater and gordon lawyers logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Slater and gordon lawyers logo.gif. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen that you have contributed a lot to the subject and was wondering how one might go about doing this? Richard Gooch[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Richard Gooch, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. mms 16:48, 23 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Deleted deletion debate[edit]

Hey Longhair. A while back you deleted Talk:How to adjust brakes as an orphaned talk page. While that page was orphaned, it was an archived deletion debate of the page it was attached to; the result of the more primitive archiving process back in the days of "votes for deletion" (VfD). See Wikipedia:Archived delete debates/Jan to Apr 2004 for where this page is listed, now red-linked. This comes up as a result of this post at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion. Can you restore the page? Thanks.--Fuhghettaboutit 02:16, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! We're well on our way to restoring the 40 or so similarly situated archive pages. It's really not unexpected that there have been these deletions when these pages gave no good indication without an archive header (which I see you saw the discussion of and posted:-)--Fuhghettaboutit 01:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Bevenvon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bevenvon.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Blooming Onion[edit]

Hi - was curious why you put the unreferenced tag back on that article after I actually added a couple references and did fact tags on the remaining things that need to be referenced. My understanding per Category:Articles lacking sources and Wikipedia:Unreferenced Articles was that the unreferenced box was reserved for articles with zero citations. If that's incorrect, let me know. Thanks. Old64mb 23:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your reference bot[edit]

Hi, I think you are running a reference bot that is really going wild.

  • It is tagging way too many articles that are currently in stub phase. Examples include Crown of Frederick I, which has literally 2 lines.
  • Some are barely even an article yet like Fried noodles, which is so far just a list.
  • It also can't recognize pages that already have references like Mung bean.
  • It seems to be extremely limited to recognizing footnote syntax only.

While we will eventually get references for developing articles, this tagging is currently adding quite a bit of extra work to the users. Benjwong 14:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC) [reply]

I had it set to class=portal so that it could be classified into the importance categories (high importance, in this case). If that isn't appropriate, then I acknowledge your edit [3], just thought I should let you know. Giggy Talk 07:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of proposal: Guideline/policy governing lists[edit]

Dear editor:

Given your extensive experience here on Wikipedia, I would greatly appreciate your input on the following topic:

Wikipedia: Village pump (policy)#Proposal to make a policy or guideline for lists

Thank you in advance for any thoughts you may have on the topic.

Unreferenced tag in Rasam[edit]

Hello there!

I've added a few recipe references in the page. Please let me know if this is good enough.

People/animal deaths[edit]

Re: [4] - I note that the category '1944 deaths' is for "people who died in 1944". Is there somewhere for non-people deaths by year? Stevage 03:10, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked on Wictionary[edit]

Alison, I'm wondering if you know anything about Wictionary. I was unrightfully blocked from it for abusing multiple accounts. Since they don't have unblock templates, how do I appeal for an unblock there? LOZ: OOT 06:59, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Strange story, though. I go there and shortly after my first edit I get blocked by Connel MacKenzie. That really, if you'll excuse the word and rage I am expressing, PISSED ME OFF!
I'm just looking for a user that I know is a sysop that is currently online to help me. But that's ok if you can't, and I'm sorry if I sound like I'm a troll. LOZ: OOT 07:06, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:StrictlyBallroom.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:StrictlyBallroom.jpg.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 00:41, 20 August 2007 (UTC) [reply]

moving pages over history[edit]

Hi Longhair. Just letting you know I've restored the history of those Townsville suburbs. It looked like the moves you made were really repairing copy/paste moves, so restoring the old history is correct. Hope this is OK by you and I didn't miss some bigger issue. --Scott Davis Talk 09:39, 25 August 2007 (UTC) [reply]

re request for assistance[edit]

Thanks Longhair for that very quick response. I comprehend the process you describe, but have not a clue on how to transfer the photo from my file into the edit. If explaining this is too complex I'll have to get my pet computer guru to come & talk me through it.Geoffrey Wickham 01:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Apropos of nothing[edit]

It was curious to see your name associated with a talkpage edit on The Radiators (Australian band), since The Radiators (US) are associated with Professor Longhair. I was wondering if maybe you were editing the wrong article, but obviously not. Just a confusing, amusing coincidence. :) Cheers, Xtifr tälk 22:30, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi:

Why would there be copyright issues concerning a photograph that I own? It's a studio portrait taken 10 years ago.

Thanks

Paul Denyer[edit]

I'm just writing to ask what your interest is in Paul Denyer. I ask because I am Paul brother, David. If you have any interests in Paul. Please feel free to let me know and I'll try to answer any questions and I'll try to answer them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedenyers (talkcontribs)

May I request that you take a look at the edits of 220.240.158.28 on Talk:Makybe Diva. On 5 occasions I have reverted edits by this user, and pointed out that the Wikipedia talk page policy is not to edit other editors comments without their permission. The user continues to abuse this policy and I would ask that you consider warning or banning the user. Constantly reverting these edits is becoming tedious. - Cuddy Wifter 02:40, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm...[edit]

... probably best just to remove that image. - Ta bu shi da yu 08:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Tach Duc Thanh Nguyen ABC.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tach Duc Thanh Nguyen ABC.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
