Neolithic[edit]

  • The history of Armenia begins with Neolithic cultures of the South Caucasus, such as the Shulaveri-Shomu culture
  • Bronze Age Kura-Araxes and Trialeti cultures.
  • Iron Age kingdom of Urartu lasted from the 9th century to 585 BC
  • replaced by the Orontid dynasty
  • Following Persian and Macedonian rule
  • the Artaxiad dynasty from 190 BC
  • gave rise to the Kingdom of Armenia
  • peak of its influence under Tigranes II
  • falling under Roman rule.
  • In 301, Arsacid Armenia was the first sovereign nation to accept Christianity as a state religion.
