From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have left the site.

When I made my first account on Wikipedia in high school back in 2006, there was a community of people excited about learning and sharing their knowledge.

Now, following a trend that seems to have consumed much of the internet, Wikipedia has becoming a stomping ground for personal beliefs and demographic biases:

Every time I try to make a productive edit, it is reverted without explanation. When I try to engage meaningfully on a talk page, I am subjected to accusations and esoteric rule-citing. This has been the case on pages ranging from folk music, medicine, to my own high school.

There was a time when Wikipedia presented the vision of a collaborative effort between diverse individuals. That vision has long been compromised, and users have left the site in droves as a result. Controversial edits containing new information are deemed "promotional" or "vandalism," even if they have due citation:

So sad, that such a wonderful project is has degraded into a cesspool of petty arguments and dehumanizing rhetoric. Why would I bother editing another page, just to be attacked on a basis of personhood?
