ARTMS (Korean아르테미스; RRAreutemiseu; MRArŭtemisŭ) is a South Korean girl group consisting of singers HeeJin, HaSeul, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry. The group, which began as a musical project in 2023, is set to debut in May 2024 with the album Dall.

Career[edit]

Background and creation[edit]

Over the course of 18 months, from 2016 to 2018, a project was carried out to form the musical group Loona under the direction of Jaden Jeong at the agency Blockberry Creative. After gathering the twelve members of the group and introducing them to the public, Loona debuted with the mini-album [+ +] (2018). In 2019, a reissue titled [X X] was released, which became Jeong's last work with the group after having creative differences with the agency.

Loona continued its activities normally until November 2022 when Blockberry Creative expelled one of its members, Chuu, and caused nine of the eleven remaining members to request the suspension of their exclusive contracts with the agency.[1] HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, Choerry, and HaSeul were among these members. In January 2023, the first four received a preliminary injunction to suspend their contracts. In March of that same year, they signed exclusive contracts with Modhaus, an agency founded by Jaden Jeong.[2][3] In this context the ARTMS project was created and would include the four singers, but it is emphasized that "ARTMS" it is not the name of a new group. HaSeul's contract was suspended on June 16; she signed with Modhaus and joined ARTMS on June 21.[4][5]

Pre-activities and debut with Dall[edit]

The first musical release within the ARTMS project was the mini-album Version Up by Odd Eye Circle, a sub-unit of Loona (and now of ARTMS) consisting of Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry, in July 2023.[6] Odd Eye Circle embarked on a tour to promote Version Up during August. In October, HaSeul released the digital single "Plastic Candy", which she promoted through a series of local concerts. Finally, HeeJin released the mini-album K on October 31st; the release of K was accompanied by the announcement of ARTMS' first album as a group, Dall, which is described as "a reset of the Loona worldview".[7]

In December 2023, ARTMS released the digital single "The Carol 3.0"; the song is a new version of a Christmas carol previously released by Loona and is the first recording featuring all five members of ARTMS.[8] The website of NME included the song (along with the previous Loona versions) in their list of 10 essential k-pop songs to listen to at holidays.[9]

Finally, at the beginning of March, it is confirmed that ARTMS' debut album will be released on May 31 of that year and will be preceded by four premiere singles; the first of them, "Birth", would be released along with a music video at the end of March.[10] The title of the album, Dall, is an acronym for Devine All Love & Live and therefore incorporates the title of Loona's first mini-album Love & Live.[11]
