Being perceived as "smart"[edit]

The way by which essentially any individual judges the intelligence of another is by comparing the ideas of the other person to one's own. If we give esteem to our own opinions and reason, then we judge what is correct by our own standards.

The way to appear "smart" to someone is to either articulate a belief held by that person (Who would disagree with someone who mirrors their own beliefs?) or to change the way the view the subject by delivering a point they never considered that clashes with the status quo of their mind but which wins over the status quo of their mind. (The latter process is much more difficult and it often takes time for someone to resolve the dissonance between two conflicting ideas. On the other hand, if they aren't very contemplative people, they will simply discard the idea and shout epithets at you.)
