Image patrol or IP patrol refers to the act of checking graphic images File links to ensure the image hasn't been used in conjuction with vandalism or personl attacks against other users.

This type of patrol is entirely voluntary and carries no obligation. At its heart, it is really just a way to find vandalism that was not spotted in the past by recent changes patrollers.

Where to find graphic images[edit]

If you don't want to actively search specific articles for possible graphic images, here are some places where graphic images are listed:

(Listed in order from most images to least images)

What to do[edit]

Is the image related to the article?

Have a quick read of the article to see if the picture has anything to do with the article. Most vandals place images at the top of articles or multiple times.

I've found a graphic image on an article!

If you spot an article that has been vandalised with an unrelated graphic or possibly offensive image, revert it and leave a warning message on the vandal's talk page, see vandalism for more information on this. Check the page history after reverting to make sure you have removed all the images which the vandal(s) have placed; there may be multiple vandal edits, sometimes from several different IPs. Also, check the vandal's other contributions — you will often find more malicious edits. If the vandal hasn't vandalised in within the last 30 minutes or so, it may be best not to warn them as the IP may belong to another user by now.
As the type of vandalism is usually intentional you can usually give the user a blatant vandal warning - {{subst:blatantvandal}}.
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thank you.
If they continue place {{subst:test4}} on their talk page.
This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

If they vandalise again after their final warning report them at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.
