Recent edits 5-24-2014[edit]

Recently, I spent some time cleaning up this article. It was chock full of what we refer to as WP:SCHOOLCRUFT. A brand new editor showed up today and reverted all my work. Listing of AP classes offered[edit]

The recent addition of AP classes offered [1] is not notable and shouldn't be in the article. While the primary source given (the school) may be sufficient to verify facts, it does not establish the information as notable. A secondary source would be needed for that. And it does not support the statement "known for its wide variety of classes". I'm sorry, but secondary though the source is, it's merely a listing which attests to the courses offered. It doesn't provide coverage or commentary that would indicate that the list is notable to an encyclopedia, and certainly doesn't support the statement "is known for its wide variety of classes". If you are affiliated with the school, I can imagine your disappointment. But Wikipedia is a collection of encyclopedia articles, and their editing is crowd-sourced, guided by the policies developed by the community over the years. The essay on the "Five pillars" is a good overview. Wikipedia aims to include information that is verifiable and notable. Secondary sources are key to the last requirement, because they can establish that a reliable source has taken note of something. So far, the sources brought don't accomplish that element. In that case, would it be feasible to suggest solely in the article, "WBHS offers the following AP classes," instead of "WBHS is known for its wide variety of classes"? If the primary source testifies to the AP course offerings, and the secondary source attests to those courses offered, it makes logical sense for those AP classes to be offered at West Bloomfield High School. The primary source document is the same one given to WBHS students to pick their class listings. The secondary source is from the College Board organization, the non-profit responsible for providing the AP curriculum, verifying that those AP classes are indeed authorized and are being taught at WBHS. The sources are clear of bias and pure canvases to draw information from. The sources are notable. WBHS has no clear reason to lie to students about their AP course offerings, and College Board has no reason to support any false claims. As both sources work in tandem to support each other and are both from reputable organizations, the evidence should be enough to at least claim that West Bloomfield High School offers the listed AP classes. 73.18.127.88 (talk) 15:59, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that the verity of the AP course list is questionable, it's a question of whether or not it's notable enough to merit inclusion in the article. The school cafeteria may offer fresh fruits every day on the menu. This fact may be backed up by a list published by the Healthy School Food Recommendation Council. But does that make it noteworthy?

If you add the AP course list without the unsubstantiated claim that the school is known for its wide variety of classes, I'm prepared to leave further editing to the rest of the Wikipedia community as it sees fit. _signed,Willondon (talk) 16:14, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
