Title[edit]

The OS gives the group the title Shiant Islands while the current name of the article is the Shiant Isles as used by the current owners. Would the OS name be the more correct one? --JBellis 17:16, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haswell-Smith seems happy enough with 'Shiant Isles' (he uses both), although WH Murray in The Hebrides refers to 'Shiant Island's. I have usually heard them referred to as 'The Shiants' which isn't that helpful. The OS names are not always consistent with other usage (see Flodday (disambiguation) for example). I am happy with either. Ben MacDui (Talk) 19:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shiant IslesShiant Islands – Per WP:WIAN this is the name on the Ordnance Survey to be consistent with the OS. The Gazetteer for Scotland, Canmore and the BBC also use "Shiant Islands" however its website uses "Shiant Isles" in the title but "Shiant Islands" as the logo and the Scottish islands book (as noted above) uses "Shiant Isles" but on page 515 they are "Shiant Islands".
