Article needs work[edit]

This is like right from the Egyptian propaganda ministry + loads of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Some needs to rewrite the whole article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.176.50.107 (talk) 08:58, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ShalateenAlshalateen

dear friends, a location should be called in the local language. so when i say for example : i am traveling to new york i should write new york in english because people there do speak english. now let us take the case of the dispute we have it here the city here is called in arabic الشلاتين which is alshalateen while what is written here in wiipedia as shalateen is in arabic شلاتين and the difference is ال it is to your brains to think about it and decide what you want to do Abdelhamidelsayed (talk) 05:47, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What it's called in Arabic is not relevant here, since this is English Wikipedia, and what it's called in English is "Shalateen." Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:12, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose move - In September 2008, an editor moved this article from "Shalateen" to "Alshalateen" without discussion, on the grounds that "Alshalateen" was the correct name for this place. However, a Google search showed that "Shalateen" has 17,300 Ghits, while "Alshalateen" has only 968, which indicated that the accepted name for this place in English in "Shalateen". Because of this, I requested that the page be moved back, and it was. I believe that the article should stay where it is, at "Shalateen", but those who believe otherwise can make their arguments here. Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:07, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I agree with User:Beyond My Ken and I don't agree with the subject "should be called in the local language" - reasoning. This is the English wiki. English wiki = English language = English names. Flamarande (talk) 13:59, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - by your logic we should also have "Rossiya" and "Deutchland". Please remeber also that English doesn't use articles before places; "al" (the) is an article and not an essential part of the name (in English). --Kevlar (talkcontribs) 22:31, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
