More work in progress[edit]

As user 9Nak says this wiki was lacking in detail. I have attempted to fill in some gaps, through simple googling but we still lack information for 1996-2006. I'm still not entirely sure how involved in the constitution and New Water Act, but from what i've seen it could be even more. I have tried to cut down the controversy section as it was far too long, even for someone as controversial as Mr.Roberts! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeadingThoughts (talkcontribs) 19:28, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also might be an idea to create a page for "no cold Kitchen". Seems a lot of the article could be moved there. LeadingThoughts — Preceding undated comment added 19:31, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Work in progress[edit]

Ronald Suresh Roberts is a very controversial figure and even news coverage of him can contain contested facts. It is possible that articles still available online may have been officially retracted or corrected; please keep that in mind during any edits. Definitely still missing is a section on his position (and perhaps advocacy) around HIV/Aids. The entry could probably also do with some more details on the books; why Gordimer disavowed what was to be a friendly authorized biography, for instance. 9Nak (talk) 16:57, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony Brink[edit]

The section on the plagiarism dispute with Brink has been removed as a BLP issue based on a lack of sources, so just in case it ever comes up again:

balance of information[edit]

Came by via Random Article and did some copyediting and expansion from citations given while I was here; I didn't know anything about Roberts (although now I do!) but the one thing I'm concerned about is that the article doesn't provide much in the way of non-controversial information about him. The research I did just now to back up my expansions and copyedits shows me that Roberts is indeed a controversial figure, and the sense I get is that he is notable more for the controversy than for anything else, but I would still like to see some information in the article about his other accomplishments, history, etc to round out the article and avoid the feel of WP:UNDUE weight on the controversies. --rahaeli (talk) 09:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious content[edit]

Discussing Roberts' biography of Nadine Gordimer, the article contains the sentence "When Roberts refused to compromise, citing journalistic integrity, Gordimer blocked publication of the biography" This is backed by the reference "Ronald Roberts, [http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/9db57a7e-e516-11d9-95f3-00000e2511c8.html#axzz3YJBc3LAp "Censorship, beyond any crying of it"], ''Financial Times'', 25 June 2005. [http://www.ronaldsureshroberts.com/static/pdf/050625ft.pdf As pdf:]". This is a dead link, and searching the Financial Times archives reveals no trace of this article, nor any other article on the paper's site mentioning both Roberts and Gordimer. A Google search for the phrase "Censorship, beyond any crying of it" finds just this article and a mirror of it. The link to a pdf on Roberts site is also dead; indeed, the site itself does not exist. If anyone has access to the FT archive, perhaps they could check whether this article ever appeared. If not, or if no other trace of the article can be found, then the sentence - which makes a very strong allegation against Gordimer - should be removed.
