so how did you come up this research information — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.59.68.217 (talk) 02:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This strikes me very much as an autobiography. While the formidable list of compositions is admirable, I don't think Mr Smith has achieved the level of success listed in the article criteria.

I would give this a low quality rating and suggest that a Wikipedia page follow only after these accomplishments can be qualified via an independent source.

NPOV and lack of verification[edit]

I have attempted to find any sort of verification for facts in this article and can find very little. The only things I've found are his website and the bio on Troy University's page. I agree with those above: this sounds very much like an autobiography. -- Johnny06man 01:53, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Activemusician.com bio[edit]

Upon reviewing the biography of Robert W. Smith located here, it appears that activemusician gets its biography from Wikipedia itself. Compare it to an older version of this page, such as this. They are virtually identical. Activemusician cannot be used to source information on this article, since it gets its information from this article. -- Johnny06man 16:52, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm. . . It’s also possible this was all just copied and pasted from activemusician. Possibly this should be deleted as a copyright violation. --S.dedalus 01:56, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. If you look at any other bio on activemusician's website, they are all very similar to the corresponding article on wikipedia. It may not be the same, but if you look at previous revisions, you should find a match. It is much more likely that activemusician copied from wikipedia, not the other way around. -- Johnny06man 03:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nom de plume[edit]

I have heard on a couple of occasions (once by my HS band director) that Robert W. Smith also wrote under the name Roberto Rodriguez. (I was one of his students the 1998-1999 school year at then Troy State University.) I don't know if it's true or not, but it's something to look into. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.181.44.227 (talk) 03:41, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Robert W. Smith. Compositions.[edit]

The list of compositions contains a number of titles that are readily recognisable as compositions of others (except in the unlikely event that he has used identical titles for his works). As examples, 'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime' is cited by Wikipedia as being a traditional Canadian song under the alternative title of Huron Carol (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huron_Carol). "Rockin' Robin" is a song written by Leon René under the pseudonym of Jimmie Thomas (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockin'_Robin_(song)), and Pavane pour une infante défunte (Pavane for a Dead Princess) is a well-known piece written for solo piano by the French composer Maurice Ravel in 1899 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavane_pour_une_infante_défunte). There are other questionable entries. It is probable that Robert W. Smith arranged, adapted or orchestrated these works in some way, and for that he is entitled to credit for original work, but not, in my opinion, for credit as composer. This extensive list of compositions may contain some original compositions that are by Robert W. Smith, and inclusion of works by others that are not his original compositions detracts from the credit to which he may be entitled as arranger etc. Each item in the list needs verification, with citations such as form of original work (for concert band, symphony for orchestra etc.,) and the nature of the original work (composition, adaptation, arrangement, orchestration etc.,) and if published, date of publication and name of publisher, or otherwise some evidence of provenance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.3.93.237 (talk) 14:22, 17 October 2014 (UTC) I am adding my signature.92.21.230.166 (talk) 11:18, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
