Last Canadian to die?[edit]

Hi. I am curious in knowing if Gray was the last Canadian to die during World War 2, and perhaps even the last person to die during the war? Does anyone know if he was or wasn't? I am also interesting in knowing if he was the last Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross. Thanks. Capt.Nero 16:37, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

I doubt that he was the last Canadian to die in WWII but he was the last recipient of the Victoria Cross in WWII. --† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 15:42, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A documentary "The Last Raid of Hampton Gray" says he was the last Canadian to die in the war. I am interested in why the Japanese erected a memorial to him, being the only foreign soldier to receive such recognition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.18.207.104 (talkcontribs) 09:02, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would assume that it was the Canadian govt which arranged and erected the memorial, rather than the Japanese. Grant65 | Talk 21:07, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gray was the last Canadian killed in combat in WWII. The Memorial in Onagawa was set up by the Japanese. One of the main individuals behind it was a Japanese man who had been an AA gunner on the day of the attack. Canadakiwi 14:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No reference to Nagasaki bomb?[edit]

August 9 1945, the date of Gray's VC action, was also the date of the second and final A-bomb. Should this be mentioned? Should there be discussion of the utility of very dangerous raids on Japan when the war was almost over?Dean1954 (talk) 16:08, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
