Merit of this page[edit]

I'm not entirely convinced of the merit of this page. Personally I think the list of people is non-encyclopaedic, and that the category is miles better. So why create it?

  • There is some kind of consensus (albeit rather passive) on Talk:Gloucestershire in favour of such a move. So it's less controversial than just deleting the list.
  • Crufty lists like this are quite persistent. Better here than cluttering up an article on the county.
  • Maybe someone has a use for it.
  • Maybe it's easier to find than a category.

Some obvious cons:

  • The category is just as useful and less intrusive
  • There is no quality metric for the list, I think because no-one really knows what the point of the list is
  • No-one really knows what the point of the list is ;) People born there? Living there now? Associated somehow? Once you've chosen one of the above, explain why a list of these people is useful...

List of people from Kent was cited as an example to motivate creating this page on similar grounds. I note from the talk page there that the only comment is a damning criticism saying that there's no point. I'm not so bothered either way but if anyone has strong views maybe they would like to debate them there. I will certainly not be offended if someone deletes this article...
