Discrepancy in Lake Victoria article[edit]

The Victoria Lake article states in one place that Katonga and the White Nile flow out of Lake Victoria and in two places the same article states that the While Nile is the only river that flows out of Lake Victoria. Which is correct? Holy (talk) 20:14, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Source and direction of flow[edit]

The lede states that the river starts from Lake Victoria, but the first section gives a different source. While several sources state that the Katonga River flows from Lake Victoria to Lake George, this source states that the river flows in both directions from swamps, with most of the flow of the Katongo into Lake Victoria. This source states that the Katonga River is one of the main contributors to Lake Victoria. This source states explicitly that the Victoria Nile is the only outflow from Lake Victoria, but also notes that the Katonga River can flow in either direction between Lake Victoria and Lake George. This all needs to be sorted out in the article. -- Donald Albury 13:56, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to fix it if I have time, the article is currently wrong, I'd base the lede on that ramsar source - the Katonga starts in the swamps between the lakes and sometimes flows to one and sometimes to the other, but as far as I can tell it never flows out of Lake Victoria. Please note that I have substantially altered the misleading and inaccurate information from the Location topic on the article page. While the RAMSAR source document I have used (the same source mentioned above by Donald Albury), does actually state much of what I have written, in view of this page's history, I have endeavoured to word the text as unambiguously as possible. In addition, I have done a brief revision of the rest of the article and made a number of changes to ensure that the article is now internally consistent.
