I did a cheeky c/e a few days ago. I was OC of a unit of Jeff Wilkinson's LSF a year before this was mounted, and as I recall it was generally in a pretty sorry state due to cost-cutting.
I have a few comments:
- T–he ADF
- "unprepared to support an Australian force projection" of this size?
- just wondering about the reason airlift is discussed ahead of sealift in the lead given ships did the heavy lifting logistically? I appreciate that the first troops arrived by air, so starting with Airlift makes sense there
- in the lead and body, perhaps mention why a maximum quayside depth of 7 m was an issue
- it might be useful to explain early on (and in the lead) about the Oecusse enclave and the logistical issues it raised given its physical separation from the rest of East Timor
- This still needs addressing. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 01:00, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
- in the face of objections
- East Timor descended into a civil war
- link scorched earth
- for 1999 Helms-Biden Act, perhaps link Jesse Helms and Joseph Biden
- Howard admitted that his government's defence policy was misguided?
- What he says is "The first Defence Minister in my government announced that... [he] would seek to use the language of the trade, to shift resources away from 'the back office to the sharp end'. I will leave to others to decide whether or not that was successful". He doesn't, of course, either in the book or in person, but he is pretty frank about it. - I don't think that you can use that to support a statement that the government's defence policy was misguided. Perhaps "Howard has questioned whether the policy to prioritise combat capabilities at the expense of logistical ones was a successful one." or words to that effect. ;equipment - commander of Australian Theatre (COMAST)→Commander Australian Theatre (COMAST)
- Deployable Headquarters→DJFHQ
- had better facilities tha
tn other cities - staffs at Logistics HQ, which HQ was that? FLSG?
- I think you should attribute opinions like "The misguided outsourcing" I agree, as it happens, but it seems like editorialising unless you attribute.
Cclasses of supply- drawn up to cover
thea contingency - link flak jacket
- hair nets?
Down to Deployment. More to come. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 09:49, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- specify that the heliport was at Comoro airport when first mentioned (assuming that is right)
- perhaps drop the mention of the Kiowa's, as it doesn't seem likely they were used for logistics purposes.
- the link to Bacau is wrong, isn't it Baucau?
- NZAF→RNZAF
- link stevedore
- mention HMAS Coonawarra is a naval base not a ship
- gobbled up is a bit colloquial
- what was Logistic Support HQ?
- APCs→armoured personnel carriers and link
- B Squadron of what? 3/4 Cav? This also begs the question of what squadron of 3/4 Cav arrived earlier
- who was Mostafa? Chief Engineer?
- According to the Wikipedia, he commanded the 17th Construction Squadron in 1991-92 and was CE 19 (Works) from 1996-97. Today he's the colonel commandant of RAE in NSW.
- drop the comma from "accommodation areas, "
- engineering capability requirements
- Major General De Mueller's Support HQ? It is Des Mueller, and is this Support Command Australia?
- "than others in using them wisely"
- in the body, move the link to Vietnam War to first mention
- McManus's Force Support→ McManus's FLSG
- the backlog→The backlog
- specify that Balibo is near the border with West Timor
- Support HQ→Support Command Australia?
- The Australian Theatre→HQAST? there is another example of this
- is it worth mentioning that there are ongoing concerns about the use of mefloquine in ET?
- perhaps mention that the number of wounded was very low, along with the ammunition usage
- AFPO5→Australian Field Post Office 5
That's me done. Placing on hold for the above to be addressed. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:15, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
