Blatant Promotional Material[edit]

Press Release removed in 2008

I removed this bit- it would appear Heartland Payment Systems want the article about them expanded. What they don't seem to get is that Wikipedia is not an advertising or promotional service and that you aren't supposed to write about your own organization. Anyway, I put it here in case other Wikipedians want to write it up a little more encyclopedic. OTOH, perhaps they aren't notable enough. --Treekids (talk) 01:37, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heartland Payment Systems Named a Best Run Sales Organization by Selling Power Magazine

- December 19, 2007 1:12 PM ET

-

- - Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. HPY, a leading provider of credit/debit/prepaid card processing, payroll and payment services, has been named "Financial Services Sales Organization of the Year" in the "Best Run Sales Organization" category by Selling Power magazine.

- The 2007 Selling Power Sales Excellence Awards(SM) recognized Heartland's innovative sales organization - the only W-2, commission-only sales force of its size in the payments industry. Heartland's unique approach to "sharing the wealth" with its sales force - as well as its dedication to educating business owners on the costs and complexities of card processing - have been a cornerstone of the company's growth and rise to the sixth largest payments processor in the country.

- - "The value proposition we offer business owners and our employees is a win-win," said Sanford Brown, chief sales officer at Heartland. "We provide business owners with fair pricing, full disclosure and a consultative service that takes the worry of payments processing away from them, enabling them to focus on operating their businesses. At the same time, we handsomely reward the hard-working members of our sales organization and allow them to directly share in the success of our enterprise. After all, our success is a result of their direct efforts in support of our cause."

- - Heartland's entrepreneurial model uses proven rewards to incent its sales force - including signing bonuses and long-term portfolio ownership with residual income. This model - which applies to every member of Heartland's growing team of more than 1,520 sales professionals - has enabled the company's meteoric growth.

- - "It's an honor for all employees at Heartland to be recognized with this prestigious award," concluded Brown. "The efforts of our sales team have been equally supported by our outstanding service team. This award is for them, too. It is proof positive of the tremendous knowledge and talent of our sales and service team...and that our efforts to advance the profession of sales as an advocate to small and mid-sized businesses have been appreciated."

- - About Heartland Payment Systems

Whitewash[edit]

You would have no idea, after reading this article, that Heartland had suffered the largest security breach in history.--Elvey (talk) 05:55, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The 2008/9 breach incident was/is huge and this article does not give that impression. So who will bear the burden of fixing it? 71.236.136.184 (talk) 15:59, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As a follow up confirmation: "Heartland, the fifth-biggest payments processor in the U.S., had suffered what within days would be called the largest-ever criminal breach of card data. Security experts estimate that as many as 100 million cards issued by more than 650 financial services companies may have been compromised. Heartland faces class actions and inquiries by federal regulators over the matter." 71.236.136.184 (talk) 18:43, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The clever bastards didn't just whitewash the Wikipedia page. I just realized that they even made the original press release on 2009-01-20, also known as inauguration day, and not just any inauguration day, but the First inauguration of Barack Obama (read as 'the inauguration of the first black American president' that had everyone's full attention that day). So what is this I've been hearing about in the news in the last day or so? Was there a new breach, or is this just about bringing charges against the people that perpetrated the 2008/9 hacking? 71.236.136.184 (talk) 19:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:SFK2 replaced news source with a press release issued by Heartland, and claimed he was providing a "neutral source"[edit]

On February 5, I added header re: litigation; paragraph about a lawsuit filed by the nominal subject recently.

The same day, User:SFK2 deleted my source (an article from BankCreditNews about Heartland Payment Systems suing Mercury Payment Systems) and replaced it with a different source (a Yahoo News article about Heartland Payment Systems suing Mercury Payment Systems). The articles both discuss the lawsuit. In his edit summary, User:SFK2 wrote "replaced it with a neutral source."

That is false. The Yahoo News article that User:SFK2 inserted is a copy of a BusinessWire press release issued by Heartland Payment Systems! (at the very top of the "article" it says "BUSINESS WIRE", a press release distribution service, and it has Heartland Payment Systems listed as the provider of the story!!). I cannot see any conceivable argument that a press release ISSUED BY the company in question is more "neutral" than an original news article written ABOUT that company.

However, in the spirit of cooperation, I will keep User:SFK2 Yahoo link. But I will also add back in the Bank credit news link. So the paragraph will have TWO citations. Even better. Carpalclip3 (talk) 00:15, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Moving this page/creating a new page for Global Payments[edit]

Is there a reason why there is no article on Global Payments? It is the surviving entity after this company was bought out right? Trialeditor (talk) 19:06, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See Also[edit]

I'm too new and low down the chain to modify this, so can someone look at the "See Also" section? This is graffiti, right? Right now it purports to be two links about Russian interference in the 2016 election, and I can't find anything in the article that relates to this. Lontjr (talk) 18:44, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
