At the match, 18-year-old Fernandes made first-team debut at right-back, and in 4th minute, he went on long run forward, stepped inside Morten Hjulmand who slipped over, and assisted Pepê for Porto's second goal in a 2–2 home draw against Sporting.[7][8] His promising debut, led him to start Porto's remaining league matches of the season, with the exception of the Taça de Portugal final on May 26, which Porto following a 2–1 defeat of Sporting.[9]
