Submission declined on 5 July 2023 by Ca (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

- Comment: Press releases, interviews, and sources affiliated with Schlegel does not establish notability. In particular, Swiss National Bank is not a independent source because Schlegel works there. Ca talk to me! 10:11, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Martin Schlegel (born 20. August 1976)[3] is a Swiss economist and Vice-Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB).[2]
Education and Business career[edit]
Martin Schlegel studied economics at the University of Zurich and completed his studies in 2003 with a master's degree.[2][4] Subsequently, he joined the Research Unit at the SNB followed by positions in the SNB's Financial Market Analysis and Money Market units. While working, he obtained a doctorate in economics from the University of Basel in 2009.[2] Since 2010, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Basel.[5] In the years 2015 and 2016 Schlegel also worked as an expert for the International Monetary Fund.[5]
After a proposal from the SNB's Bank Council, Schlegel was appointed as an Alternate member of the SNB's Governing Board by the Swiss Federal Council in June 2018.[4][6] In May 2022, the Federal Council appointed Schlegel as the Vice-Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank. This also made him Head of Department II of the SNB.[1][7] Later that year he was a speaker at the Forum for Financial Market Stability held by the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein.[8]
In an interview in October 2023 Schlegel, talking about the Acquisition of Credit Suisse by UBS, said: "We don't have a mandate to rescue a bank."[9]
After the announcement of Thomas Jordans resignation in March 2024,[10] Schlegel is seen as the favourit for his positon as Chairman of the SNB.[11][12][13]
Personal life[edit]
Schlegel is married to Nicole Brändle, who's the current director of HotellerieSuisse .[14] They have 3 children together.[11]
