Kidan Piece of Darkness (Japanese: 鬼談百景, Hepburn: Kidan hyakkei lit.'100 Ghost Stories') is a 2016 Japanese horror anthology film written and directed by Mari Asato, Hiroki Iwasawa, Eisuke Naitô, Yoshihiro Nakamura, Hajime Ohata and Kōji Shiraishi. The film consists of 10 spine-chilling tales adapted from Fuyumi Ono's best-selling novel.

The film was released on January 23, 2016.

1 "Overtaking"「追い越し」 Yoshihiro Nakamura Since Mr. U got his driver's license, he would frequently go for late night drives with his friends. They would often go visit abandoned places that are supposedly haunted, even though they never really encountered anything paranormal. Until one night, they've finally get what they're looking for...
2 "Shadow Man"「影男」 Mari Asato One day, Ms. K suddenly had to leave for work so she decided to drop her 2 kids off at her mother who lives nearby. After the children finished their lunch, Ms. K's mother put them to bed. Eventually, she fell asleep as well. Suddenly, a noise woke her up. As she went to check the noise, a mysterious figure is seen banging the front door. Is it human or just an apparition?
3 "Tailing"「尾けてくる」 Mari Asato One day, on her way home from school, Ms. S, a high school student passed by the park near her home. Suddenly, while looking at the park, she saw a man standing there without an umbrella. As the man turns around, she gets creeped out and seeks an old man for help. The old man discovers something that will remain a mystery for Ms. S for the rest of her life.
4 "Looking Together"「一緒に見ていた」 Hajime Ohata A homeroom teacher was shocked to see that a woman she had a relationship committed suicide. Left alone at the room where the woman died, the teacher feels her presence, looking out together at the students playing in the low ground.
5 "The Woman In Red"「赤い女」 Hajime Ohata Ms. A transfered into a Ms. N's school in which she invited Ms. A to her apartment and her friends throw a birthday surprise for her. Despite an inexplicable sense of happiness, everyone still had a lot of fun until the evening. Ms. N decided to tell a scary story about a woman in red dress told by Ms. A on the way home. As soon as the story-telling ends, they are haunted by various noises, in which a woman in red is involved.
6 "Empty Channel"「空きチャンネル」 Hiroki Iwasawa When T was in high school, his friend Y wanted to listen to the radio one night so he tuned into the school radio station. But instead, a woman telling the audience about how her best friend betrayed her by dating someone she loves. As the nights go by, the radio broadcast gets more creepier and scarier...
7 "Whose Kid?"「どこの子」 Hiroki Iwasawa Mr. I was employed to a high school institution. That night, there were only two teachers left in the office. His co-worker warned him not to stay overnight at the office or else he'll see "things". After Mr. I is left alone, he begins to experience ghostly events.
8 "Let's Carry On"「続きをしよう」 Eisuke Naitô When Mr. N was in elementary school, something weird happened. He and his friends decided to play in the graveyard nearby. One by one, his friends got injured badly. Is it a curse or a just their silly mistake?
9 "Thief"「どろぼう」 Eisuke Naitô When Ms. T was in high school, there was a bad rumor going around in the neighborhood. It was said that a woman with many children was a bit strange. Her stomach was getting bigger like a pregnant woman's, in which she denies as her body fat. After a few days, her tummy suddenly got slim, making Ms. T suspicious of her as a thief. Passing by a drain rail, she hears the sound of a baby crying.
10 "Sealed"「密閉」 Kôji Shiraishi Ms. K starts to get creeped out by her closet. Everytime she check on her closet, it was always half-open. In the end, it wasn't the closet that was the problem but it was an old suitcase...

Production & release[edit]

The stories in the film were written and directed by Mari Asato (Ju-On: Black Ghost), Hiroki Iwasawa, Eisuke Naitō (The Crone), Yoshihiro Nakamura (The Booth), Hajime Ōhata (ABCs of Death 2),and Kōji Shiraishi (Noroi).[2]

The film was released on January 23, 2016.
