In 1998, he was nominated for a David di Donatello as Best New Director for the film Three Men and a Leg, winning in the same year a Nastro d'argento speciale and in 2001 he was nominated as Best Actor for Ask Me If I'm Happy.

Career[edit]

From 1985 he began to work at the Palmasera Village Resort in Cala Gonone, where he formes with Aldo a duo called "I suggestionabili". Here he met Giacomo Poretti, then village head and part of the cabaret duo "Hansel and Strüdel" formed with Marina Massironi, his then-girlfriend; in the group of young animators also took part Stefano Belisari, who then became Elio from Elio e le Storie Tese (as DJ), Giorgio Porcaro, Mario Zucca, Eraldo Moretto and Marino Guidi. Then the trio "Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo" is born (formerly "Galline Vecchie Fan Buon Brothers).

In 1987 he took part on the film Kamikazen: Last Night in Milan, where he plays the role of a Marshal of the Carabinieri. The partnership or the comic trio with Aldo Baglio and Giacomo Poretti was established (supported by Marina Massironi until 2000) the three made their debut on the big screen in 1997 with Three Men and a Leg, collaborating in the screenplay and the direction together with Massimo Venier; the big success to the box office, combined with a good critical reception, the trio was nominated for a David di Donatello in category "Best New Director", a Nastro d'argento speciale and a win at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in category Best Comedy.

In the following year That's Life is released, where he acts with Aldo, Giacomo and Marina, taking care of the screenplay and the direction with Massimo Venier again. The film was a great success, placing first in the box office ratings of the 1998-1999 season and becoming one of the highest grossing films ever in Italy (34th position). In 1999 he gets hired to act in the film All The Moron's Men, playing the role of Pocoto, a Yakuza criminal accompanied by his henchmen Sakato (Aldo Baglio) and Mamoto (Giacomo Poretti).

In 2000, the trio's third film is released, Ask Me If I'm Happy; this film represents the trio's greatest commercial success and occupies the 17th position among the greatest successes of all time in Italy. In 2001 Giovanni was nominated for a Nastro d'argento for Best New Director together with Aldo and Giacomo. In 2002, the gangster film The Legend of Al, John and Jack was released, directed and written by the trio with Massimo Venier. Set in the 1958 New York, Giovanni plays the role of John La Puglia, a crook who with his brother Jack (Giacomo Poretti)'s complicity, tries to trick the crime boss Sam Genovese and collect his bounty. The film, like any other, was a considerable success and placed himself in the 33rd position among the greatest successes ever in Italy.

In 2020, with Aldo and Giacomo, he collaborated in a video by the channel iPantellas called Scherzi divertenti da fare ai tuoi amici.[1] In April of the same year, he appears in a video of the same channel called L'interrogazione con Giovanni Storti - Speciale Video Lezioni.[2] From 2021 he started an internal column in the trio's official channel called Giova loves nature, where he tells and illustrates pecularities of plants and animals.
