Draft:Bopl Battle

Bopl Battle is a 4-player couch co-op game developed by Zapray Games.

Gameplay

You play as a slime character called a 'Bopl'. You can use ability combos to eliminate the other players/team.

Abilities

• Dash: Your Bopl launchs towards your cursor.
• Grenade: Your Bopl holds a grenade for a set time, and can explode and kill your Bopl if you hold it for too long. Your Bopl can also throw the grenade at other players to kill them.
• Bow: Your Bopl turns into a bow and slowly falls down if you dont release.
• Engine: Places an engine on the platform and moves the platform.
• Blink Ray: Your Bopl turns into a ray and shoots towards the cursor, turning any object invisible for a short time.
• Gust: Objects around your Bopl are pushed away.
• Growth Ray: Your Bopl turns into a ray and shoots towards the cursor, causing other players to grow in size.
• Rock: Your Bopl turns into a boulder and kills any bopl in its path.
• Missile: A missile is launched above your Bopl, and follows the cursor, destroying any bopl in its path. It explodes on contact with an object, and if released it goes forward in its direction at fast speeds.
• Spike: A sword comes out of the platform below the Bopl.
• Time Stop: When held, after a short time, time stops and you can use abilities to eliminate other players.
• Smoke: Same mechanic as the grenade ability, but it releases smoke and dust around it, and it can explode if engine, grenade, missile, tesla coils, or mines touch it.
• Platform: Creates a platform below the Bopl.
• Revival: The first time a player dies, they are revived. Multiple revives clone the Bopl.
• Roll: Your Bopl charges, and runs around any platform close to the Bopl. Other Bopls must jump out of the way to avoid being killed.
• Shrink Ray: Your Bopl turns into a ray and shoots towards the cursor, causing other players to shrink in size.
• Black Hole: A black hole appears that sucks in all other Bopls on the platform.
• Invisibility: Your Bopl temporarily becomes invisible, making it harder for other players to kill you.
• Meteor: Your Bopl charges, and moves down with force, killing any Bopl in its path.
• Throw: Your Bopl turns into a previously deleted character, and can throw a small piece of the platform below it. The platform shrinks every time a boulder is thrown. If it hits another Bopl, they will die.
• Grab: The platform below your Bopl moves towards the cursor.
• Tesla Coil: A tesla coil is placed on the platform, and when 2 are places on different platforms, it makes a electric line that can kill a Bopl.
• Mine: A floating grenade that follows enemy Bopls for a short time before exploding.
• Teleport: Same functionality as the Tesla coil, but instead of creating an electric line, it teleports any object inside the teleport circle to the other teleporter. The teleporters disappear afterwards.
• Drill: Your Bopl turns into a drill following your cursor, killing any Bopl in its path.
• Grappling Hook: A grappling hook is thrown and lands on any object. If your Bopl is near an enemy Bopl, the enemy is grappled onto the object instead of you.
• Beam: A laser comes out of your Bopl towards your cursor, killing any Bopl in its path, and when 2 beams collide, it creates a larger beam.

Scrapped Abilities

• Turret: A turret is placed on the platform, shooting blue spheres that kill any Bopl in its path.
• Charge: Your Bopl charges, and the longer you charge, the bigger the explosion. Upon death, your Bopl explodes.
• Macho-Slime: Later turned into Throw, your Bopl can slam and punch the ground, killing any Bopl in its path.

Combos

• Dash+Dash+Dash: If you win a game with this, you get the achievement "I AM BECOME JAKOB, DESTROYER OF FUN"

Development

Bopl Battle was developed by Zapray Games, (which really is only 1 person..) and took 6 years to develop in Unity, as a 2D game. Abilities were added and scrapped, bugs were fixed or re-added, and the game was finally released on November 16, 2023 (which is very recent).

Bugs

• Cloning: It was removed from the game, but it was a cool glitch, so it was re-added.

Level Types

• Normal: Default level.
• Ice: Various platforms are covered with ice, causing Bopls to slide on them.
• Moon: Gravity is reduced, causing Bopls to jump higher and move slower.

Level Type Ideas

• Sunrise: A bright sunrise background that changes colors.
• Summer: A summer themed level.
• Volcano: A volcano that randomly erupts and kills Bopls.
