Helmut Szimkus is a German engineer and expert on heavy water,^[1] who's arrest in Iran after being by charge of "spying for Iraq" in 1994.^[2]

Arrest, torture, sentenced and released[edit]

in 1989 Szimkus was arrested in Iran by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He was tortured in Evin Prison to force a confession.^[3]^[4]^[5]

After 5 years, in 1994, Szimkus was sentenced executing after being by charge of "spying for Iraq" by Supreme Court of Iran.^[6]^[7] The IRNA news agency (Iranian government news agency) confirmed this verdict.^[8]^[9]

On June 2, 1994. Szimkus was pardoned and released by the leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei.^[10]^[11]^[12]
