Apotheka serves as a cohesive brand that unifies pharmacies across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. As of 2023, there are a total of 344 pharmacies operating under the Apotheka name. In Estonia, Apotheka pharmacies are owned by independent pharmacist owners.
For more than 20 years, Apotheka has been providing its services.
History[edit]
The birth of the Apotheka pharmacy chain can be attributed to the opening of the first pharmacy carrying the Apotheka brand in Estonia in 2000. This set the foundation for the Apotheka pharmacy chain.
A.Aptiekas, the first pharmacy of the Apotheka chain in Latvia, was launched in 2005. Later, in 2012, Apotheka chain pharmacies introduced the service of personalized medication packaging.
Apotheka e-apteek, the first e-pharmacy in Estonia, was opened in 2013.[1] This was a big and innovative step in that decade in Estonia.
The year 2015 witnessed the establishment of an e-pharmacy in Latvia, coinciding with the introduction of pharmacy robots in Estonia. [2] This marked a significant advancement for Estonia, as it implemented an ingenious warehousing system located behind the service area, enabling prompt delivery of the pharmacist's order to the counter within seconds.
In 2019, the Apotheka chain made its debut in Vilnius, Lithuania, with the opening of its first pharmacy. This was pivotal moment for Apotheka Vaistine as it ventured into the wholesale sector, enabling the widespread distribution of medications throughout the country. Moreover, in 2021, an e-pharmacy was also opened in Lithuania.
Nowadays[edit]
By 2023, the Apotheka pharmacy chain has gathered more than 160 pharmacies in different locations in Estonia, 56 pharmacies in Lithuania and 128 pharmacies in Latvia. [3] [4] [5]
Tallinna Raeapteek, a part of the Apotheka chain, is undoubtedly remarkable pharmacy. It has been serving customers from the same location for over 600 years, making it the oldest operating pharmacy in Europe.
