Anthropological characteristics of the Uyghur people In the anthropological classification of the peoples of the world, Uighurs belong to the Pamir-Fergana race [1][2] which is part of the Greater Caucasian race. There are also representatives of the Irano-Afghan race and Turanid race.

Appearance of Uyghurs[edit]

Uighurs are representatives of the Caucasian and Mongoloid race. 70% Caucasian and 30% Mongoloid[3] Among the Uyghurs, there are also subraces;Pamir-Fergana and Irano-Afghan race, which are included in the Caucasoid, also Turanid race in the Mongoloid

Appearance of Southern Uyghurs[edit]

"Southern Uyghurs" are Kashgarians, Atushians,Khotanis,Yarkandians,Aksuis Abdaly. All representatives of the Pamir-Fergana race and Indo-Iranian race

Western Uyghurs[edit]

The large "Western Uighurs" are Ili, having in the majority Turanid race and half Pamir-Fergana race Appearance of Western Uyghurs.

  • tertiary hairline - medium
  • height - average
  • head shape - brachycephalic
  • Beard - Abundant growth, medium size
  • Nose shape - convex

Central Uyghurs[edit]

The central Uyghurs are Komul,,Uchturfans,Kuchars,Korlins,Machins, Turfans and Polurts. All representatives of Turanid race.

Other Uyghurs[edit]

Lop Nors and Dolans are Uighurs, preserved Kyrgyz,Altai and Mongolian traditions.

The Tor Uyghurs represent the Pamir-Fergana race

Uyghur DNA[edit]

Among the Uyghurs, the developed haplogroups J, K and R. The following is the distribution of hapglogroups:

Haplogroup J2 - 38%

Haplogroup K - 18%

Haplogroup R1a1 - 16%

Haplogroup H - 8%

Haplogroup O - 6%

Haplogroup C - 4%

Others - 16%

Words of scientist[edit]

Famous Kazakh researcher Sh. Walikhanov, who lived for some time in Kashgar and collected material for his research in East Turkestan, claims that "the Uyghurs outwardly resemble the Indo-European type. They are very similar to the Tajiks of Central Asia, which originate from the Persians and speak Persian.

The appearance of the Turkestans is not at all similar to the Turks and Mongols.
