Biography[edit]

She is a laureate of the first program competition by flux TV, TVLab, organised by the channel France 4 in 2013, with "Lazarus lève le voile"..[1].

Anne-Laure Bonnel remains 'relatively unknown' [2] until 2016, when her film intitled "Donbass" is released, a 54 minute documentary shot in 2015 during a visit to the region, then war-torn and opposing pro-russian separatist forces and the Ukranian armed forces [3]. The Ukrainian organisation StopFake decried false information emanating from Russian propaganda [4].

In 2020, she participated in a debate organised by the organisation Dialogue franco-russe, part of the pro-Kremlin lobby and then presided by Thierry Mariani[3],[5].

In 2021, she released a film about the conflict in the Haut-Karabagh[6], which was lauded by Causette for her treatment of the subject [7]

Disinformation[edit]

Anne-Laure Bonnel propagates Kremlin propaganda relating to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. One contested element of disinformation which she affirms - qualified as fallacious - according to which: "The Ukrainian army deliberately bombs civilians in the Donbass". She often conflates the number of total fatalities in the conflict with the number of Russian or Russian speaking civilian fatalities. Anne-Laure Bonnel frequently cites 13000 as the number of victims in the war and implies these are civilian casualties. The UN recognises between 13000 and 13 200 deaths in the Donbass, 3000 of which are civilian deaths.

She has also been criticised for creating partisan segments on the war in the Donbass without specifying her stance, segments shot while under the wing of figures of pro-Russian authority, who guide her with the goal of showing false affirmations of Russian state television. It is these figures that we can hear asking questions during the segment, not Bonnel herself.

"Donbass" has been criticised by other journalists having worked on the subject, most notably Benoît Viktine. Inversely, it has been lauded by Serguei Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

An aide to Anne-Laure Bonnel, in contact with her, attempts to remove from Google search results articles by several media outlets which expose her role in Kremlin disinformation and propaganda.
