I am a member of the Board of Directors for The Friends of La Barque Creek Watershed. And I have been asked to contact Wikipedia and Google maps to have these organizations open a page or show a map of the La Barque Creek MO CDP. The US Bureau of the Census designated our area as a Census Designated Place (CDP) in the 2010 Census. The La Barque Creek MO, CDP includes all of the following dedicated open space areas managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) - The Young Conservation Area totaling approximately 1145 acres, The Myron & Sonia Glassberg Conservation Area totaling 429 acres, The La Barque Creek Conservation Area approximately 1,274 acres and most of the 843 acre Don Robinson State Park managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). The La Barque Creek watershed totals about 8400 acres (13 sq. miles +/-). The La barque Creek CDP is larger with a population of about 1300 persons. It is a low density mostly residential area with some institutional land uses. These include The College School educational site of 28 acres located on Doc sergeant Road; Washington University Research site of 102 acres; St. Joseph's Hill and the Shrine of the Black Madonna which total about 140 acres.

The entire area is located southwest of the City of St. Louis . The area is accessed by Interstate I-44 and Missouri routes 109 and "FF".

La Barque Creek MO, CDP continued

The La Barque Creek MO, CDP (Census Designated Place) was initially included by the US Bureau of the Census as part of the 2010 US Census - kansas.city.regional.office@census.gov .The entireLa Barque Creek area is located located in northwest Jefferson County, Missouri. The Missouri Board on Geographic Names (MOBGN) voted unanimously to approve La Barque Creek, Missouri as an official "Geographic Name". The MOBGN then forwarded the favorable recommendation to the US BGN Domestic Names Committee in Washington, DC for approval. The US Board on Geographic Names approved La Barque Creek as a "populated Place" on June 25, 2010 ( GNIS search La Barque Creek - ID 2630712, Class -Populated Place, - County, Jefferson Sate MO, Latitude 382523N, Longitude 0904057W, entered on 11 Jun 10.

Orange Mike, I'm new to this so I'm a bit slow in navigating around wikipedia. But to answer your question about nearby towns - The City of Eureka, MO in St. Louis County is northeast of the La Barque Creek area about 5 miles. And the City of Pacific, MO. (partly in St. Louis County and partly in Franklin County) is to the northwest about 5 or 6 miles.

Therein lies part of our problem and why The Friends of La Barque Creek undertook the naming process with the State, and Federal agencies as noted above. And also with the Jefferson County administration. You see The entire LaBarque Creek CDP is located within northwest Jefferson County. To complicate matters further there are five zip codes within the La Barque Creek area. Each one references a different incorporated City like Pacific or Eureka or unincorporated areas like Cedar Hill or House Springs.

As part of the 2010 US Census Mr. Joel Barrow, Geography Department, US Bureau of Census Regional Office 2001 Northeast 46th St., Kansas City, MO 64116 worked with us and the MO Dept. of Conservation to delineate the La Barque Creek boundaries based largely on the La Barque Creek Watershed. Mr Barrow's phone number was at the time 1-816-994-2020.

In addition, we have in our file the letter we received dated June 25, 2010 from Mr. Lou Yost, Executive Secretary, Domestic Names Committee, United States Board on Geographic Names . This Board is part of the U.S. Geological Center 523 National Center, Reston, Virginia 20192-0523. Therein Mr Jost states on June 10, 2010 the Board approved "La Barque Creek for an unincorporated community in Jefferson County"."The new Name has been entered into the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), the nation's official geographic names repository ..." It is searchable online at —http://geonames.usgs.gov

It's possible that a reporter might find the struggle of a local group to get LaBarque into WIkipedia an interesting news handle. The holidays took me away from this effort. But, I did contact a resource at the ST. Louis Post-Dispatch who I asked to forward my request to the Feature Writer. At this time I've yet to hear back.
