My name is Haziq, a Malaysian scholar at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). My interests encompass contemporary politics and history. My journey as a Wikipedia editor began on September 18, 2015, from which I have made over 1600 edits. My contributions to editing pages pertain to subjects which I am passionate for, amongst which include football, history, politics, and Islam.

Personal life[edit]

Born to a family deeply rooted in politics, I descended from the Megat Terawis bloodline of the Bendahara of Perak nobility. My great-grandfather, Megat Yunus, was the founder of UMNO Perak alongside Panglima Bukit Gantang, alongside being amongst the Orang Besar Empat of Perak, serving as one of four high nobles beneath the Sultan; a title equivalent to Dukes in European peerages. The title was likewise inherited by my grandfather, Megat Jaafar.

Politics[edit]

Growing up, I was raised with profound interest in the politics of Malaysia and the field of political science. My passion owes greatly to my father, a former youth leader in UMNO who was amongst the many party grassroots who left alongside Anwar Ibrahim after the events of Reformasi. Belonging to a conservative household, I likewise adhere to traditional right-wing politics, oftentimes reflected in my political beliefs; a fusion of paternalistic conservatism, corporatism, Islamism, and strong emphasis on anti-corruption. My strand of conservatism reflects the wider collectivist nature of Malay society, including a strong rejection of individualism and lassez-faire economics as well as scepticism of big business and monopolies. My role models growing up include Anwar Ibrahim, Tengku Razaleigh, Amin al-Husseini, Theodore Roosevelt, Oswald Mosley and Otto von Bismarck.

On a personal note, I am a close acquaintance of Ahmad Ali Karim, a conservative writer and fellow scholar at IIUM.

Football[edit]

Growing up with a particular passion for football, I became invested in many clubs since my childhood. Though many factors may attract my interest in any particular club, it oftentimes pertain to the club's culture and history. Thus, I grew up supporting popular clubs with a robust culture such as the local Selangor FC along with Manchester United. Likewise, I have an inherent disdain for clubs rooted in corporate culture, such as Manchester City and the local Johor Darul Ta'zim. Listed below are the football clubs I currently take interest in:

Favourite quotes[edit]

Listed below are some of my favorite quotes from famous figures, most of whom are political, religious, and military leaders, and showcase a presentation of the beliefs and values I uphold.

“I have been given the authority over you, and I am not the best of you. If I do well, help me; and if I do wrong, set me right. Sincere regard for truth is loyalty and disregard for truth is treachery. The weak amongst you shall be strong with me until I have secured his rights, if God wills; and the strong amongst you shall be weak with me until I have wrested from him the rights of others, if God wills. Obey me so long as I obey God and His Messenger. But if I disobey God and His Messenger, you owe me no obedience. Arise for your prayer, God have mercy upon you."

“I will be harsh and stern against the aggressor, but I will be a pillar of strength for the weak."

"The weakest man is the one who is able to correct his moral defects, but doesn't take action. "

"The best companion and helper is admirable morals."

"The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers."

“Allah is my witness. I will not be silent. I will never surrender"

"Whatever our Lord says, whatever our beloved Prophet says, we shall follow that path."

“Your nafs is your first battlefield. If you are victorious over it, then you will find the other battlefields easier.”
