i think you got bulgaria and macedonia inverted

This map is absolutely wrong. May someone attach the real map from historical sources for same period.

No, this is correct. And before that the theme with the name Macedonia was further to the southeast, where Macedonian troops were resettled to defend Constantinople. And I suggest you read something of the Bulgarian-Byzantine wars of the late 10th and early 11th centuries which lead to the fall of the First Bulgarian Empire before commenting further. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.25.46.12 (talk) 16:11, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
