Parsifal grasps it withhis hand and brandishes it with a gesture of exalted rapture,making the sign of the Cross with it. Parsifal: This sign I make, and ban thy cursed magic:As the wound shall be closed,Which thou with this once clovest,—To wrack and to ruinFalls thy unreal display! PARSIFAL CAPTURING THESACRED SPEAR As with an earthquakethe Castle falls to ruins, thegarden withers up to a desert,the damsels become shriveledflowers strewn around on theground. Kundry sinks down at Par-sifals feet, while the hero, gaz-ing at her with compassion,and referring to the Holy Grail,where true salvation can alonebe found, cries: Parsifal: Thou knowst—Where only we shall meetagain! (He disappears, and thecurtain falls quickly.)
