Summary

Description
English: This is a photo from the book "Die Erotik der Antike in Kleinkunst und Keramik". This title translated into english is "The eroticism of antiquity in small art and ceramics".[1]

The book was by Gaston Vorberg and was published in 1921.[1]

The book was a portfolio that included 113 plates. Each plate was an image of an object. Each object had been found in a museum or private collection. These objects were from ancient Rome and ancient Greece.[1] Some of the objects were Etruscan.[1]

Some of the objects had photos taken of them. Other objects had water colour paintings made of them.[1]

It is thought that there were around 500 copies of this portfolio produced in 1921.

In 1966 a new version of this book was published.

Title: Roman Brothel token.

Found in Rome

Possibly two spintria tokens?

The token on the left possibly has the character "X"? The token on the right possibly has the characters "III"?

The caption for this image reads:

"Römische Bordellmarken

Fundort Rom"

The caption for this image describes these tokens as "Brothel tokens". It has been speculated that one of the uses for ancient Roman spintria tokens was for the use in brothels.[2]Spintria tokens were thought to have all been created between 22 to 79 CE.[3][2]

Spintria tokens have a numeral on their reverse side. [3][4]The description for this image does not give details on what is on the reverse side these tokens.

It could also be speculated that this is an image of a watercolour painting. The portfolio that this image was included in also included watercolour paintings.[1]
