ARACANIDI E OSTRACIONIDI 87 Nel Museo di Parigi abbiamo esaminato (x) alcuni dei tipi di Ostracion maculatus Hollard (Antille, Haiti), che da tempo viene cor- rettamente identificato con A. quadricornis.

Margioccó) Nel suo catalogo dei tipi di Ostracionidi del Museo predetto, Le Danois (1961 a) attribuì a Lactophrys tricornis (= A. quadricornis) un esemplare (B. 1662) che Valenciennes (1850) aveva denominato Ostracion lumbospinis e che era stato raccolto a S. Elena da Dussumier (1830). Questo Ostracionide, conservato in alcool, misura 260 mm ed è dotato di due spine (l'anteriore incompleta) ravvicinate e poste lungo la carena dorsale ; le spine frontali sono assai brevi e il disegno a esagoni oscuri sulla corazza è ancora ben riconoscibile. Dal suo esame ci è ap- parso evidente trattarsi non di A. quadricornis, bensì di A. notacanthus (Blkr), caratterizzato dalla presenza di una spina sul dorso (la sua du- plicità nel predetto esemplare costituisce un'anomalia). Questa specie è nota presso le isole Azzorre, Ascensione, S. Elena; compare occasio- nalmente lungo le coste africane e, secondo Tyler (1965 b), anche europee. O. lumbospinis risulta quindi sinonimo di A. notacanthus. (1) Un vivo ringraziamento è qui rivolto al prof.
